Job summary

A leading retail company in Malaysia seeks a Buyer to join its expanding team. The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing and selecting product assortments, maintaining relationships with brand partners, and monitoring inventory and market trends. Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience in retail buying or merchandising, preferably in the sports retail sector. Strong negotiation and analytical skills are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

Sports Direct Malaysia is currently looking for Buyer to join our growing team.

Sports Direct Malaysia currently operates a total of 40 retail stores domestically and manages a proprietary SportsDirect.com e-commerce site for domestic and regional fulfillment. The stores are uniquely zoned by key sports categories which include; SD Football, SD Running, SD Training (fitness, cross training, gym equipment, weights, boxing, yoga), SD Rackets (badminton, tennis, squash), SD Swimming (pool, beach, water sports), SD Sports (basketball, rugby, extreme games, cycling, skates & indoor games), SD Lifestyle (Men, Women & Kids) & SD Outdoor (Hiking, trekking, camping & fishing).

Job Description
  • Analyse and select compelling assortments within your assigned categories / activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with our brand partners.
  • Sales performance tracking for selected category assigned and take proactive action on underperforming products through markdowns, or promotions, and over performing products through daily business.
  • Monitor and ensure on-time delivery of stocks from suppliers.
  • Monitor weekly trade performance and stock health; and sell-through targets by category and brand.
  • Identify white space opportunities and drive product innovation.
  • Negotiate cost prices, margin improvements, trading terms, and exclusivity opportunities with our brand partners.
  • Code creation, issue PO & update Delivery Plan to make sure the systems are always up to date.
  • Sourcing for potential brand or supplier, evaluate and propose for the business.
  • Participate in seasonal sell-in and buying appointments with suppliers and brands.
  • Monitor industry trends and market developments to ensure assortments remain relevant and competitive.
  • Partner with Visual Merchandising, E-commerce, and Marketing to ensure alignment across channels.
  • Work with Planning and Allocation teams to optimize distribution strategies and store grading.
  • Work closely with Store Operations to understand customer feedback and regional needs.
  • Any other lawful assignments as and when assigned by the Head of HR & higher management.
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years experience in retail buying/ merchandising, preferable from the sports retail industry is desirable.
  • Applicants from Fashion & Merchandising, Fashion Design, Business Management, Marketing, Economics / Finance, Supply Chain Management / Logistics are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong in negotiation skills and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Good analytic capability and numbers sensitive.
  • Knowledge in MS Excel.
  • Good time management skills and deadline sensitive.
  • A real passion for retail & able to spot customer trends.
