A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Business Development Manager for filtration and separation systems in Malaysia. The role demands over 10 years of experience in industrial processes, particularly within the oil and gas sector. Responsibilities include driving growth strategies, maintaining customer relationships, and developing proposals. Strong technical marketing experience and a relevant degree are essential. Leads and drives business development activities for a filtration and separation group across multiple regions. Holds overall responsibility for generating profitable growth from existing product lines as well as new product development, with full revenue and earnings accountability. Establishes strategic teaming and partnership alliances with competitors and external organizations, and collaborates closely with sales organizations, business teams, divisional units, and current and prospective customers to promote technologies, products, and services aligned with customer needs. Identifies opportunities to leverage group capabilities within Industrial Process markets. Partners with Marketing to develop and execute strategic and tactical plans that support both short- and long-term objectives. Coordinates group and customer support efforts to maximize aftermarket penetration and profitability.
Revenue guidelines are applied when determining the appropriate job grade level.
Requires the ability to operate effectively within a highly matrixed organization, with full accountability for profitable growth.
The role works closely with global and regional group staff, regional sales organizations, platform managers, and marketing managers, and collaborates with corporate marketing and cross-group teams on business initiatives and marketing efforts.
Reports to the Head of Business Development for the Filtration Group in the Asia Pacific region.
Develops customer-focused proposals and contracts that deliver acceptable returns by translating customer requirements into business and development opportunities; supports renegotiation strategies during contract periods.
Develops, manages, and supports business development plans and proposals for divisional business units across local and international programs; identifies needs for cross‑division collaboration and external strategic partnerships.
Conducts competitive analysis, evaluates sales performance, and defines goals and milestones for specific products; applies in-depth understanding of technical capabilities, operational capacity, and market dynamics to influence future strategies.
Acts as a key liaison between customers and regional marketing to resolve issues and ensure satisfaction related to cost, quality, delivery, and performance; coordinates internal support across divisions and maintains close alignment with technology and operations teams for rapid solutions.
Builds and sustains strong customer relationships in coordination with regional sales teams to anticipate future needs and expand business opportunities.
Identifies new business opportunities through analysis of competitors’ offerings, market intelligence, customer challenges, and emerging industry trends.
Maintains technical and professional expertise through ongoing education, industry publications, professional networks, and participation in trade shows and conferences.
Establishes objectives and drives execution of programs by coordinating efforts across divisional teams; recommends actions through data analysis and complex comparative evaluations.
Serves as a principal advisor to group and regional leadership on critical issues related to the Industrial Process platform.
Acts as a technical subject‑matter expert, sharing specialized knowledge, representing the group on key projects, and contributing to cross‑functional and continuous improvement initiatives.
Develops and maintains Industrial Process platform business plans in close collaboration with country sales managers and channel partners.
Initiates and executes marketing and sales campaigns in partnership with product managers to improve sales performance.
Oversees sales funnel development, management, and optimization for Industrial Process business platforms within the Asia Pacific region.
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (preferably Chemical or Environmental Engineering) or equivalent. An MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering is preferred.
Typically requires 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in industrial process applications, including at least 7 years of senior‑level technical marketing experience supporting major oil and gas customers in the Asia Pacific region.
Comprehensive understanding of industry principles, practices, technologies, regulations, and service capabilities related to filtration and separation systems for the oil and gas industry.
Knowledge of plant operations across upstream and downstream oil and gas, gas distribution, refining, petrochemical, chemical production, or OEM environments.
Strong awareness of competitive products, market strategies, and potential partners for strategic alliances.
Ability to address highly complex problems involving incomplete data and intangible variables, with a broad and long‑term strategic perspective.
Ability to analyze and interpret complex policies and procedures and recommend effective improvements.
