About us
Onnu is a leader in biomass pyrolysis, with operations in Europe and Malaysia. We build and operate pyrolysis and torrefaction plants, deploying our own proprietary technology, which process waste biomass and transform it into biochar, biocarbon and black pellets, while generating carbon removal credits and green energy at the same time.
With our first Malaysian plant live, with two more under construction, we are looking for a Business Development Director to drive our expansion in South East Asia, by closing agreements with more operating sites and overseeing the sales of the biochar, biocarbon and black pellets generated by the plants.
About the role
Day-to-day activities will include:
- Targeting corporate clients to host our plants while integrating into their own operations, particularly large plantation operators
- Developing and executing strategies to identify and cultivate prospective customers: soliciting new accounts; building rapport; providing technical information and explanations; preparing quotations.
- Assessing the feasibility and financial viability of potential ventures as well as setting targets, milestones and metrics to measure success
- Pitching multiple stakeholders online and in-person
- Identifying prospect's needs and suggest appropriate products/services
- Educating yourself on Onnu’s equipment by working closely with other internal teams in order to make technical presentations to demonstrate how the equipment meets client needs
- Co-ordinating sales process with technical colleagues to finalise and close deals
- Leading and growing a team to build biochar, biocarbon and black pellet sales in South East Asia.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations and more
- Closing high-value sales and long-term agreements
- Assessing competitors by analysing and summarising competitor information and trends; identifying sales opportunities. Collecting and updating local market insights, monitoring competitors' activities (services and pricing), and sharing pertinent information when needed.
- Reporting on KPI’s to Director with weekly, monthly, and quarterly results
The ideal candidate
- Lives in, or has had extensive experience working in, Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand, with good knowledge of business practices in the region.
- Experience in sales/business development, preferably in the corporate scale biomass boiler or similar technology
- Proven track record of surpassing sales targets in business development, ideally within one of the following industries: waste biomass, anaerobic digestion, agriculture, biomass energy
- A good understanding of large-scale agri-business in SE Asia.
- Excellent internal communication skills and can engage regional teams for sales pitches and tender responses
- Ability to become conversant with scientific and engineering considerations underpinning the solution
- Experienced in prospecting, relationship building, and lead generation
- Interest in the development of renewable technology in the waste biomass industry
- Confident in conversing with C-level client contacts about complex concepts
- Enjoys consistently increasing their knowledge on the latest industry news and trends to stay up to date with the new projects and players within waste biomass or clean energy
