PUBLIC HEALTH DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (GOOD FOOD) - Ref: SS00625

Grade: G10; Salary: £43,693 - £48,710 - 37 hours per week (Pay Award Pending)

2 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT

The Public Health Development Manager (Good Food) will be a member of the dynamic Public Health team. You will provide leadership and advocacy for health and wellbeing and support the development and implementation of policy and practice to reduce inequalities across Walsall. You will be required to work with staff, organisations, and community groups to build public health capacity across Walsall whilst targeting support to those in greatest need.

The post holder will be responsible for facilitating Walsall’s new Food Partnership and co-ordinating action to deliver the ambitious Food Plan (Feeding Walsall’s Future). Walsall’s Food Partnership is a broad coalition of local organisations and individuals working together to build a thriving local food system for Walsall. A key role of the Partnership is to oversee implementation of the Food Plan.

The objectives of the Food Plan are to:

• Champion good food and support people to access affordable, nutritious food to build a fairer and healthier future for everyone.
  
• Tackle factors contributing to food insecurity and the inequities around food access, working to redistribute food to those who need it most.
  
• Encourage an environmentally sustainable and responsible food system to improve food security and resilience for the future.
  
• Transform catering and procurement to promote good food access and choice.
  

The post holder will also be required to take the lead on certain actions whilst influencing and having oversight of wider partner Food Plan contributions. Managing budgets and implementing systems for monitoring and evaluation will be an important part of the role.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a matrix fashion, maintaining close links with staff in other teams and organisations who are working on related outcomes. There is a requirement to cross cover the work of other team members or pick up new areas of work where necessary. The role requires experience of working in a public health organisation along with strategic public health skills, competencies and knowledge. There is a strong commitment to workforce development for each member of the team.
