Job description

Reference: JAN20260951
Location: Flexible in Mid/North Wales, with travel
Terms: Part-Time role for 22.5 hours per week, Fixed-Term, 24 months (April 2026 until March 2028)
Salary: £27,123.00 - £28,956.00 Pro Rata

An exciting opportunity to join an established, award-winning team at the forefront of peatland restoration in Wales’s iconic upland landscape.

We are looking for a dedicated individual to help us restore habitats at scale across Mid and North Wales. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or looking to progress your career in conservation, you will work alongside experience colleagues to protect our uplands for the benefit of wildlife, climate, and local communities.

Our programme has grown from our success at Lake Vyrnwy, and we are currently working across a diverse portfolio of 13 sites. With ongoing investment, you will help us expand this work, delivering landscape-scale restoration that sets the standard for conservation in Wales.

What’s the role about?

This role is funded by the National Peatland Action Programme to lead peatland restoration at our Gwenffrwd-Dinas and Carnfach reserves. Working as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team, you will turn restoration plans into reality.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Baseline Research: Establishing the current condition of our peatlands.
  • Project Delivery: Developing restoration plans and managing specialist contractors to deliver high-quality habitat work on the ground.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Tracking progress and sharing our successes with funding bodies.
  • Collaboration: While focused on specific sites, you will be part of a culture that thrives on knowledge-sharing and collaboration across our wider Welsh restoration efforts.
Key Focus Areas:
  • Project Care: Using clear governance to keep restoration works on track and within budget.
  • Teamwork: Working closely with staff, partners, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Communication: Creating engaging content to share the story of our uplands.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying project risks and finding creative solutions.
Essential:
  • Conservation Knowledge: An understanding of upland ecosystems and/or peatland restoration.
  • Project Experience: Experience delivering projects or habitat management, ideally involving external contractors.
  • Communication: The ability to speak and write about our work in a way that inspires and influences a variety of people.
  • Partnership Building: Experience working collaboratively to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Organisation: Strong time-management skills and the ability to adapt to the changing needs of a field-based project.
  • Technical Skills: Competency in MS Office and experience (or a willingness to develop skills) in GIS packages.

Closing: Friday 13th February
