Looking for an opportunity to further your knowledge and skills in Cardiology within a supportive multidisciplinary team environment? We are looking for an enthusiastic Registered nurse or ODP to join the department.
Our innovative Cardiology department’s Cardiac Cath labs comprise of 5 Cath Labs, a recovery area and an Elective Unit. Procedures completed in the Cath Lab include coronary diagnostic procedures, interventional angioplasty, Electrophysiology Studies and Pacemaker insertion. In addition we run a 24 hour heart attack service which is provided out of hours on an on call basis. Our service currently entails 2.5 GA lists a week supporting complex pacing and electrophysiology procedures. We also have a fortnightly cardioversion list. This is set to increase in the future.
Future development opportunities within the department include becoming a Cath Lab Practitioner where you learn to become a multi skilled worker performing all different roles in the lab; clinical facilitator role where you focus on education and training for all members of the team; and deputy manager roles where you take on co-ordinating all Cath Labs and managing junior staff within the department.

A role in the Cath Lab includes caring for patient’s pre and post recovery in the elective unit, acting as scrub practitioner during sterile cases and supporting patients as a circulating practitioner by caring for all their needs during procedures.
Supernumerary time and support would be given to develop competencies in all areas.
In this role you will be able to develop your skills in
• Running GA lists alongside multidisciplinary team (ODP)
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the GA service (ODP)
• Working in recovery admitting and recovering allocated patients
• Scrubbing to assist in our range of interventional and diagnostic procedures.
• Caring for patients during non GA procedures with conscious sedation and pain relief as required and accurately documenting this.
• Handing over patients to the recovery team post procedure

• Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services.
• To manage the ward/ department environment and staffing in the absence of a senior member of staff.
• To take responsibility for bed management in the absence of a more senior member of staff.
• Effectively assess and delegate workload according to staff competencies in order to meet patient needs.
