• Provide direct support to the Hospital at Night practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team in caring for deteriorating and acutely unwell patients across the Trust.
• Work flexibly across both hospital sites as part of the cross-site Hospital at Night service, ensuring safe and consistent care wherever patients are located.
• Respond to bleep calls promptly and carry out delegated clinical tasks safely and effectively in line with Trust policies and training.
• Assist with clinical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECGs and basic observations, escalating findings appropriately.
• Support ward teams with practical tasks including patient monitoring, preparing equipment, and ensuring smooth communication between staff.
• Act as a key link between the wards and the Hospital at Night team, ensuring tasks are prioritised and completed in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and legible documentation of all interventions and escalated concerns to the responsible practitioner without delay.
• Uphold high standards of infection control, patient dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
• Contribute to a culture of learning by supporting new staff and sharing knowledge within the team.
• Demonstrate flexibility by assisting across a range of clinical areas, ensuring the Hospital at Night service remains responsive to patient needs.

The Hospital at Night service at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides essential out-of-hours care across the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital sites. Our team includes Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Support Workers and medical staff who work together to assess deteriorating patients and manage urgent clinical needs during the night. The service plays a key role in patient safety, ensuring wards have access to skilled support whenever it’s needed.
