Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and a host of Train Operating Companies.
Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the system engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will undertake all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.
Typical Deliverables
- Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
- May be required to lead in creating ideas for new products or services and drawing up plans for new designs.
- Taking ideas from initial design through to production and installation.
- Drawing up detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
- Using mathematical and scientific skills to create workable, real-world solutions.
- Selecting appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
- Calculating accurate cost analysis forecasts for projects.
- Completing technical and regulatory documentation.
- Ensuring quality control tests on new products/systems and overseeing their construction, development, and deployment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of own professional engineering discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
- Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Maintain and develop personal engineering skills.
- Solve complex problems; approach existing solutions from new perspectives.
- Work independently with minimal guidance.
- Lead projects or project steps and be accountable for ongoing activities or objectives.
- Mentor colleagues with less experience.
- Comply with prevailing QEHS requirements.
Skill Requirements
- Previous technical experience in SISS, engineering, design, and survey skills.
- Relevant licenses/certifications for the discipline.
- Proficient in MS Office, Word, Excel, etc.
- Knowledge of quality standards, processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD software.
- Collaborative work ability.
- Customer-focused, able to liaise with stakeholders.
- Problem-solving passion and solution-oriented mindset.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills, with the ability to visualize processes and outcomes.
