Engineering Manager - Data Platform, London
Canonical is building a comprehensive suite of multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions for the enterprise. We aim to make it easy to operate any database on any cloud or on-premise. The data platform team covers the full range of data stores and technologies, including big data, NoSQL, cache-layer capabilities, analytics, and structured SQL engines like Postgres and MySQL. Our goal is to deliver fault-tolerant, mission-critical distributed systems and the world’s best data platform.
We are seeking technical Engineering Managers to lead teams focused on Big Data and MySQL databases. Our tech stack includes Python, Kubernetes, and cloud environments.
Location:
This role can be filled in Europe, Middle East, Africa, or any American region/time zone.
What your day will look like
- Lead a team building scalable data solutions for Kubernetes and cloud environments
- Hire, coach, mentor, and provide feedback to your team
- Contribute code to demonstrate engineering skills when needed
- Manage expectations with engineering teams, management, and stakeholders
- Develop and promote engineering and organizational best practices
- Ensure your team delivers high-quality products that users love
- Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values
- Participate in leadership activities and collaborate across the organization
- Work remotely with biannual travel for internal events
What we are looking for in you
- Background in software engineering, experience with Python and Golang preferred
- Experience operating at scale, especially with Big Data or MySQL
- Strong judgment about people and team dynamics
- Proven track record in building high-quality, open-source software
- Ability to promote good engineering practices

Additional skills that you might also bring
