Join our UK-based Tax Centre of Expertise in Europe (Europe Tax CoE) as a Senior Manager, Direct Tax (Germany). Your work will primarily focus on BMS Germany.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include ensuring accurate tax filings, managing tax risks and audit proceedings, meeting internal and jurisdictional deadlines, and efficiently managing resources to meet budget targets.
You will also support US tax reporting, global tax initiatives, transfer pricing and align global tax requirements with local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the direct tax compliance and US tax reporting for Germany and a small allocation of other markets in the Europe region.
- Ensures effective planning and execution of local tax compliance requirements, including preparation and review of tax returns by managing internal and external resources.
- Acts as the German Tax Compliance Management System Officer, who manages a risk register collating input from payroll and indirect tax managers, and reports these to the FD and General Manager each quarter.
- Manages tax audits with close collaboration with local finance teams and corporate tax staff. This will include occasional travel to Munich to attend tax audit meetings, as well as meeting with the local finance team.
- Supports collating information for transfer pricing documentation in accordance with the local rules.
- Provides tax support for local business on operational issues.
- Advises the head of finance in local markets and actively educates business partners on relevant changes in tax legislations.
- Prepares US GAAP provision, projection and contingency reporting.
- Maintain a high standard of internal control that complies with Sarbanes Oxley, Corporate policies and procedures, local processes and local external requirements.
- Liaises across tax, finance, customs, treasury, legal, HR, and with external advisers to ensure compliance with local jurisdictions and assesses areas of risk.
- Leverages technology to create effective calculations to support tax returns and provisions.
- Identifies potential tax issues, performs research, and makes recommendations to prevent & resolve tax issues.
- Pro-active team management to ensure that team is staffed with right resources, appropriately trained and developed, and work is allocated appropriately.
- Pro-actively manage the external advisor budget, planning internal resourcing and knowledge holding as much as possible, and ensuring planning and transparency of required spend.
- Support a high-performance operating culture throughout the organization which emphasizes the customer, teamwork, external focus and personal accountability.
- Collaborates effectively with other members of the team, including delegation and coaching junior members of staff.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant degree or chartered tax advisor qualification (local equivalent such as Steuerberater, Fachassistent für Steuerrecht, Steuerfachangestellte).
- Professional experience in a large corporate tax environment or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience in global or regional team.
- Experience in managing and developing staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Competences
- Business Fluency in English and German, required
- Proficient in accounting provisions, accounting principles, audit and disclosure requirements of financial statements.
- Understanding of US GAAP an advantage.
- Team player with good leadership skills who is confident in communicating with others and can work with minimal supervision.
