We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Building Control Inspector to contribute to improvements in building quality within Adur & Worthing Councils through the application of the Building Regulations and associated legislation.

The Building Control team covers Building Regulation work across the whole geographic area of Adur & Worthing Councils. The district has a mix of commercial and residential developments across the area covered by the Councils.

As a Senior Building Control Surveyor, you will need to be in the process of registering with the Building Safety Regulator for registration at a minimum Class 2F Band B (General Building Control Inspector) and preferably working towards Band C - Specialist Building Control (Higher Complexity Buildings).

You will be required to be fully registered as a Band B General Building Control Inspector within a maximum of 3 months from the commencement date of your employment. Full corporate membership of RICS or CABE (Building Control specialism) is required. You will also require significant Building Control experience.

Your principal duties will include: Undertaking a lead role in examining plans and carrying out site inspections for large and complex building projects where the Local Authority are the Regulatory Authority; providing technical assessments/advice and making decisions on the full range of Building Control functions within the jurisdiction of the Councils, ensuring that buildings comply with the relevant regulatory standards; and assessment of dangerous structures and implementation of immediate remedial action, enforcement and controlling demolitions etc.

The successful candidate will have: The ability to prioritise their own and team workload to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure; have excellent written and verbal communication skills; be confident and work flexibly on their own initiative. Operationally, all team members of the Building Control Service enjoy the choice of either working at Worthing Town Hall or working remotely. As the Principal Registered Building Inspector, you will have a varied caseload of work requiring the effective application and understanding of the relevant Building Acts and associated legislation.
