Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a small friendly team providing professional support to the Council's decision‑making processes, Elections and Local Councillors, in a varied and interesting role.

We are seeking a highly motivated and professional person with strong interpersonal skills to support the Council's decision‑making, Elections and governance arrangements, working with Members and senior officers.

Your role will be to assist in ensuring that the Council operates efficiently, effectively and lawfully as a democratic body, including providing relevant professional support for elections, to Council & Committee meetings, ensuring effective decision‑making, assisting in maintaining the Council's Constitution and handling and developing democratic and civic processes. You will provide accurate and timely procedural and constitutional guidance to Councillors, officers, the public and partners. With a solid background in the democratic services in local authorities or a similar role, you will also have the ability to work to tight deadlines and possess excellent communication and IT skills.

The post holder will be required to work some evenings to attend meetings and occasional weekends at Mayoral / Civic events, although in the main hours will be worked flexibly Monday to Friday in agreement with the Manager.

The post has been designated as a 'Flexible office based worker' and the post holder will be required to attend the office at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk in accordance with business needs of the service, particularly for specific election work, Committee Meetings, Mayoral / Civic events, team meetings, catch up meetings and training that isn't being conducted by way of remote meeting software and there may be some occasions when the post holder may be required to attend the workplace / office at short notice.
