What are we looking for?

Candidates should bring strong strategic thinking and the ability to help shape the Group’s priorities, along with analytical skills to interpret data and support evidence-based decisions. They should be confident communicators who ask insightful questions and challenge constructively, while also being good listeners open to diverse perspectives. No prior governance experience is required; instead, EKC Group values enthusiasm, empathy, reliability, and a genuine desire to contribute to educational and community prosperity. Backgrounds in areas like business, public service, community work, or lived experience are welcome, but what matters most is a commitment to improving outcomes for learners and families across East Kent.

East Kent Colleges Group (EKC Group) has grown rapidly in recent years, and we’re now inviting motivated individuals from diverse backgrounds to join our Governing Body and Local College Boards (LCBs). Governors and LCB members play a critical role in maintaining the Group’s resilience, innovation, and excellence. As part of a balanced team, you’ll provide external insights, challenge assumptions, and help shape strategic direction. You’ll bring enthusiasm, skills, and experience from other areas of life to support senior leadership and ensure the Group delivers high-quality outcomes.

Time commitments vary depending on the board’s activities. Involvement may include attending meetings, strategic planning, training, conferences, award ceremonies, and community events. Full details are in the job description.

Volunteering as a Governor or LCB member is a rewarding way to give back to your community, meet new people, and help improve lives through education. You’ll strengthen transferable skills, build networks, and develop your understanding of the education system. For those with limited experience, full training is available.
