We’re on the hunt for a versatile, high-output Copywriter to join Gumtree’s Customer Experience team on a fixed term contract basis. As we evolve and grow, compelling content and sharp, purposeful copy will be key to our transformation. You’ll write copy that’s clear, human, and action-driven, across our website, app, CRM, and marketing. You’ll be a confident user of AI tools and productivity software, using them to accelerate idea generation, versioning, tone calibration, and content scaling. This role is about speed and impact, not long-form storytelling. You’ll be close to design, product, and performance marketing, and play a critical role in sharpening Gumtree’s voice across the customer journey. Location: London Waterloo, hybrid working applies with circa 3 days in the office.

About the role:

You’ll report to the Head of Design and Research and focus on writing and editing short form copy across core product journeys (e.g. onboarding, search, checkout) and user touchpoints (e.g. emails, notifications, homepage modules). You’ll be an avid user of tools like Gemini, ChatGPT, Notion AI, Writer.com, or similar to generate and refine high-volume copy with brand precision. At Gumtree, we work collaborative to scale-up at pace. You’ll partner with Design, Product, CRM, SEO, and Performance Marketing to deliver fast, on-brand copy iterations across channels. Additionally, you’ll build and maintain AI-assisted content systems, templates, and copy banks to increase team output and consistency. As an experienced copy writer, you’ll be skilled in adapting tone and messaging for specific verticals (e.g. For Sale, Motors, Property, Services) and audiences (e.g. private vs pro sellers). We are moving at speed leaning on test and learn approach, iterating quickly and using data to prioritise what to write next and when to change direction. Sounds like you? What are we looking for?

• You’ll have a strong background in digital copywriting (ideally within marketplaces, e-commerce, or consumer tech). Experience writing UX copy, microcopy, push notifications, and/or SEO copy at scale would be highly sought after.
• Deep familiarity with AI content tools and a passion for using them to boost creative productivity
• You’ll be comfortable writing in a constrained brand system, but happy to challenge and improve it
• Skilled in switching tones fast—friendly, helpful, urgent, confident—and always stay clear
• Organised, proactive, and comfortable working across multiple teams and deadlines
