What is the opportunity?

The Global Adverse Media Team supports and executes several workflows within RBC’S AML FIU by:

Conducting a second level triage function by taking decisive action on certain alerts and cases which require a form of diligence beyond first level triage (name matching) to assess the materiality of Control List Filter (CLF) alerts under various risk factors, which will lead to risk based approach of escalation and case level attention of the High Risk Client Management Team (HRC), AML Investigations, or AML Compliance.

1- Reviews alert escalations to assess the relevant adverse information (RAI) to confirm name matching and materiality of the negative news, and determines if the alert warrants further AML Investigation, HRC Investigation or other applicable stakeholders while documenting the approach accordingly.

2- Further, the Manager acts as a subject matter expert/senior specialist in the review of CLF alerts across several lines of businesses. These reviews involve conducting name matching analysis and risk appetite contemplation utilizing RBC approved techniques and tools to assess whether the flagged hits are of concern. The Manager will assist with testing methodology and piloting with CLF alerts coverage regions and new themes.

What will you do?

• Conducts second level triage on Control List Filter (CLF) alerts for all applicable business lines to (a) escalate potentially suspicious activity or materially relevant adverse information (RAI) for further review; (b) identify scenarios applicable for the Level Two Triage Process and execute said process; or (c) close false positives.
• Ensure alerts are thoroughly documented with sufficient rationale to support escalation, Level 2 action, or closure, that mitigates risk to the enterprise and aligns with RBC’s risk appetite.
• Provides ongoing feedback to Senior Management to ensure name matching logic is sound and of a high quality level in order to facilitate decisions with minimal requests for additional information, and for the purpose of mitigating financial, regulatory, reputational, and legal risk to RBC.
• May be required to periodically assist partner teams (e.g. High Risk Sector) based on business needs, capacity, and volume.
• Work with stakeholders to ensure that analyses are escalated where relevant and that they are conducted within defined timelines, RBC guidelines, processes and procedures and in accordance with RBC Goals.
• Personally responsible and accountable for self-development and maintaining up to date knowledge, best practices, and skills sets for relevant AML/CFT and other regulatory matters in support of the analytical function.
• Develop and maintain a network of internal partners and external peers in the industry to support analytical requirements.
• Fulfill annual compliance training hour requirements.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have

• Demonstrated experience in financial and money laundering crimes/High Risk Clients/High Risk Sectors/EDD investigations and/or a law enforcement/regulatory background and/or banking background.
• Undergraduate university degree or equivalent experience
• Effective and strong written and oral communication skills.
• Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to work within strict deadlines.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word applications.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of banking systems and processes.
• Strong AML knowledge
• Strong knowledge of relevant predicate offences, e.g. fraud is considered an advantage.
• Skilled in open source research.
• CAMS designation
