About the Department

The Department of Applied Disability Studies is the largest graduate program in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The vision of the Department of Applied Disability Studies is to be an internationally recognized, preeminent academic program that contributes to the betterment of the lives of people in our community and beyond, with a focus on persons with disabilities and underserved populations. The Mission of the Department of Applied Disability Studies is to educate students who will be agents of change to help better the lives of people in our community and beyond, with a focus on persons with disabilities and underserved populations. We strive to contribute knowledge and improve services by conducting cutting‑edge basic and applied research, and by providing transdisciplinary, quality postgraduate education to the next generation of professionals, researchers and educators, and experienced professionals in the field. Faculty are internationally respected in applied disability studies and applied behaviour analysis.

The Department of Applied Disability Studies offers a PhD in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), a two‑year Master of Arts (MA) degree, a Master of Applied Disability Studies (MADS), and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Disability Studies. Students pursuing an MA or MADS degree or Graduate Diploma may choose to specialize in the field of Leadership, Diversity, Community, and Culture (LDCC) or ABA. Students specializing in LDCC take coursework in theories of disability studies, critical disability studies, research and evaluation, leadership, disability and policy, and community‑engaged research. Master’s students specializing in ABA take our Association for Behavior Analysis International Verified Course Sequence and additional coursework in Applied Disability Studies. We offer weekday and weekend classes on our main campus in St. Catharines, and weekend courses in Burlington, Toronto, and Ottawa.

About the Position

The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for an Instructional Limited Term Appointment position for three years in the Department of Applied Disability Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in our ABA specialization, participate in department affairs, and fulfill service commitments to the Department and the University. The successful applicant will be expected to teach eight half‑credit courses in various locations across Ontario (as assigned). Teaching can occur during the day, evenings, or weekends and may include in‑person, online synchronous and/or asynchronous classes, as well as blended or hybrid offerings. The workload of an Instructional Limited Term Appointment Faculty shall normally be 80% teaching and 20% service.

  • Evidence of effective teaching (e.g., sample course outlines, teaching evaluations, teaching awards), professional experience (can be indicated on the applicant’s curriculum vitae), and research in the field of behaviour analysis (can be indicated on the applicant’s curriculum vitae)
  • Name, affiliation, and contact info of three (3) academic referees providing letters. If applicable, references from previous academic appointments should be provided (See instructions below).

Although not required, we invite candidates to highlight evidence of successful teaching, research, and professional experience in the field of disability studies in their applications.
