Position Summary Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC).
In accordance with established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, reporting directly to the Program Lead, the Northern Emergency Response Team (NERT) and Virtual Support Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model. The primary responsibility of the Nurse is to perform interfacility transfers alongside BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) paramedics and to provide in-the-moment real time advice and mentorship for Rural Emergency Department nurses managing complex patients via an established virtual network. When not performing transfers, the Nurse assists with patient care as required working together with hospital-based practitioners at the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) and actively supporting the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and healthcare teams in the hospital. The NERT and Virtual Support Nurse practices in a variety of clinical settings and competently applies the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Working in collaboration with the bedside nurse and other multi-disciplinary care teams in Rural Emergency Departments, assists in providing the most appropriate care available within their current context, using a variety of specialized communication and information technologies.
Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Nights - 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00, Rotating

Qualifications • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Successful completion of an accredited critical care training course and/or certificate with a minimum of five years recent related experience caring for critically ill/injured patients including experience performing inter-facility patient transfers; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Successful completion of an accredited advanced emergency care courses, including Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) or Emergency Practice, Interventions and Care Canada (EPICC) - Trauma and Pediatrics, Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS) Certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognitions and Stabilization (PEARS) Course, and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• Current valid BC Driver's License.
Skills and Abilities: • Ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions. • Ability to communicate effectively with the clients, families, the public, medical staff and the members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means. • Ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively. • Ability to promote patient-focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, patient advocacy and social justice concerns. • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others internal and external to the organization. • Demonstrated computer skills including the use of Cerner and Windows based programs. Demonstrated ability in the use of e-mail and word processing. Ability to operate other related equipment as required in the specific practice area. • Ability to travel within the Northern Health Region facilitating patient transfers on a daily basis. • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
