Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) is an active, acute‑care community hospital located in the heart of the City of Kawartha Lakes. It cares for 45,000 patients per year in a 24/7/365 emergency department, offers orthopedics and ophthalmology, operates a dialysis unit, and is noted for its mental health programs and restorative seniors care.

Position Summary

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) reports to the President & CEO and will develop strategies that result in the efficient utilization of financial resources, translating the Hospital’s strategic directions into outcomes, enhancing quality of care, and building partnerships internally and externally.

Responsibilities
  • Lead annual and multi‑year operating and capital budgeting processes while providing strategic advice that supports the hospital’s financial goals.
  • Lead detailed monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, monitoring and forecasting of the hospital’s financial position; develop and implement analytical tools for financial and statistical analysis.
  • Provide financial expertise and analysis to support innovative health‑system and funding reforms, models of care, procurement and analytics.
  • Focus on quality improvement through ongoing monitoring and implementation of initiatives that enhance financial services to stakeholders.
  • Monitor compliance and produce all required attestations and compliance declarations.
  • Lead the planning and execution of internal and external audit work.
  • Present regularly to senior leadership and Board Committees on financial health matters.
  • Direct and monitor financial management policies and procedures.
  • Advance a financial strategy positioning the team as strategic partners across the Hospital and Healthcare System.
  • Identify opportunities to prepare the Hospital for future success in Ontario’s evolving healthcare funding landscape.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership on financial opportunities, projected growth, government funding changes, investment and risk management initiatives.
  • Build internal and external leadership within a multi‑stakeholder environment.
Essential Qualifications
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA, CA or CGA) and a Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting or a health‑leadership related program.
  • Ten years’ progressive finance and accounting leadership experience in a complex multi‑stakeholder environment; healthcare and/or public sector/not‑for‑profit experience is an asset.
  • Strong business acumen with solid experience in business management, financial planning, performance measurement and budgeting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills; ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks and provide credible analysis and recommendations.
  • High emotional intelligence with excellent verbal and written communication; ability to articulate complex financial issues to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to thrive in a changing environment while managing financial constraints.
  • Evidence of a collaborative leadership style and effective team‑building across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Decisive judgment and the capacity to influence others and outcomes.
  • Proven track record of results that improve the organization and inspire confidence and commitment.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills; ability to handle a large number of issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently and accurately under stressful conditions to meet tight deadlines.
  • Change‑oriented with a continuous‑improvement mindset.
  • Capability to gain cooperation and support through influence and persuasion as an agent of change.
  • Broad knowledge of health‑care system design, related issues and trends, policies and up‑to‑date legislation.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and develop leaders within the financial services team.
  • Excellent computer skills with superior knowledge of Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements of the job, as per the current Physical Demands Analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA.
Hours of Work

Must be available for eight (8) hours per day.
