The City of Cornwall is recruiting for Casual Part‑Time Advanced Care/Primary Care Paramedics for our upcoming 2026 onboarding class starting May 4, 2026. Candidates will receive an email from careers@cornwall.ca following each stage of the process. We will inform candidates about each stage of the recruitment process and outline any required documentation as well as other details and expectations.

Casual Part‑Time Paramedics must provide at least sixteen (16) shifts of availability per calendar month. At least eight (8) shifts must be on the weekend, and at least six (6) shifts on nights. Casual Part‑Time Paramedics are on a one (1) year or 2080‑hour probationary period. They must apply for a full‑time position and selection will be based on part‑time seniority. Assigned hours will be based on availability provided and staffing requirements.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive salary starting at $41.52 per hour for Primary Care Paramedics and $44.45 per hour for Advanced Care Paramedics.

Advanced Care Paramedic
Position Summary

The Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) delivers advanced pre‑hospital emergency medical care and safe transportation for patients in critical condition. This role involves performing advanced assessments, administering life‑saving treatments, and handling complex medical emergencies. The ACP collaborates with other emergency services to ensure optimal patient outcomes while adhering to all applicable regulations, standards, and protocols to maintain high‑quality care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, stabilize, and treat patients in emergency and non‑emergency situations using advanced medical procedures.
  • Administer medications, perform advanced airway management, and use specialized equipment as required.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Primary Care Paramedics during emergency responses.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to gather information and deliver care.
  • Prepare and document accurate patient records, ensuring compliance with medical and legal standards.
  • Maintain, clean, and inspect medical equipment to ensure readiness for use, including the management and security of controlled substances.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certification, enhance skills, and stay current with medical advancements.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services to provide coordinated and efficient patient care.
  • Comply with all municipal, provincial, and federal regulations, as well as professional standards of practice.

Position Summary

The Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) provides front‑line pre‑hospital emergency medical care and transportation to patients in need. This role is critical to ensuring the health and safety of the community by responding to emergencies, stabilizing patients, and collaborating with other emergency services personnel. The PCP adheres to all relevant regulations and protocols to deliver professional, compassionate, and high‑quality care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls, assess patients' conditions, and provide basic life support (BLS) care as per medical protocols.
  • Safely transport patients to healthcare facilities while monitoring and maintaining their condition.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions within the scope of practice for a Primary Care Paramedic.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to provide updates and gather information.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient care records, ensuring compliance with medical and legal standards.
  • Inspect, maintain, and restock vehicles and medical equipment to ensure operational readiness.
