A prominent health service provider in Calgary is seeking a casual Therapy Assistant. The successful candidate will provide direct and non-direct patient care, working under supervision from a multidisciplinary team. This physically demanding role involves various rehabilitation services for patients across the healthcare continuum. The ideal candidate must have a diploma in rehabilitation and current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. Availability for initial orientation and regular shifts is required.
South Health Campus (SHC) services Calgary and the surrounding rural areas and was designed as a referral centre for Southern Alberta. SHC operational philosophy has been built on Four Pillars: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars guide the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. The Allied Health department at South Health Campus provides services to in‑patient units and out‑patient service areas. Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the Clinical Practice Leader, this casual Therapy Assistant position is primarily responsible for providing direct and non‑direct patient care. As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an inter‑professional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech‑Language Pathologist within our In‑patient team. The caseload for this position may include acute care medical, neuro, and surgical areas. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. The successful incumbent will be expected to provide 2‑3 weeks availability for initial orientation and subsequently be able to commit to a minimum of 1‑2 weekday/daytime shifts of ongoing availability, as well as the availability to work over peak times such as summer vacation and other holiday periods. Some weekend shifts may be available after full orientation.
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an inter‑professional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech‑language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non‑client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client‑centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
Completion of diploma from an accredited post‑secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification required.
Experience working as a Therapy Assistant in an adult acute care environment in the past year an asset.
