The Regina Open Door Society (RODS) is a non-profit organization that provides settlement and integration services to refugees and immigrants in Regina. RODS is committed to meeting the needs of newcomers by offering programs and services to enable them to achieve their goals and participate fully in the larger community.

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide one-on-one, in-person employment counselling to newcomers to Canada, helping them achieve their employment goals. The incumbent offers guidance and information to job seekers on all aspects of job searching, career planning, personal marketing tools, essential employment skills, and the Saskatchewan labour market landscape.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Adult Education, Social Services or other related fields
  • Training and experience in employment counselling, job coaching and instruction, including the development of employment-related workshops and training
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with staff, clients, and employers
  • Experience and sensitivity when working with newcomers to Canada, including those with limited English language skills.
  • Strong technological skills (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Google Classroom, SMART Boards, Databases, and online communication platforms)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organisational skills
  • Demonstrates accountability, resourcefulness, initiative, and professionalism
  • Ability to research, identify, and develop content suitable to the learning needs of the clients
  • Demonstrating comprehensive understanding of market trends, available training, educational and employment opportunities, job competencies, employer requirements, and community resources
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, and tight deadlines
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation would be an asset

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one employment counselling for newcomers.
  • Identify barriers to employment and support clients in developing their career action plans.
  • Assist clients with job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing résumés, and preparing for job interviews, among other tasks.
  • Assess clients' needs for assistance with educational credential evaluations, financial assistance, and further training and refer clients to the appropriate services
  • Stay updated on labour market trends and effective job search techniques.
  • Gather labour market information for clients about job vacancies, skill sets, and other occupational details.
  • Refer clients to employment readiness workshops and other alternative employment programs and events organized by the department.
  • Refer clients to other RODS services or external organizations as appropriate
  • Enter client data into the database, record, update and maintain clients' progress notes, and submit monthly and annual reports to the Employment Services Manager
  • Follow up with clients for employment maintenance and evaluation
  • Connect with the job developers to access the hidden job market and employment opportunities for clients.
  • Carry out other position-related duties as required
Salary Level

The annual salary for this position starts at $54,440.59 ($31.02 per hour) at Step 1 of RODS' Professional Category 1. Pay periods are the end of the day on the 15th of the month and the end of each month.

Working Conditions and Application Instructions

The standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with an unpaid one-hour lunch break and an earned day off (EDO) every other week.

All positions at RODS require a clean criminal record check. There is a cost- shared benefits package and a 3% pension contribution available to the employee upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
