Educational Technology and Digital Experience Specialist

Date Posted: 12/15/2025
Req ID: 46419
Faculty/Division: UofT Scarborough
Department: UTSC:Ctr-Teaching & Learning
Campus:University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)
Position Number: 00051865

Description:

About us: The University of Toronto Scarborough is a place of energy, enthusiasm and passion. Our commitment to inclusive excellence attracts the brightest learners, scholars and employees from around the globe. Our success has been made possible by the opportunity given to us by our Indigenous hosts to operate on their territory, and we cherish our continuing partnerships with these communities. The University of Toronto Scarborough is an exciting campus with unlimited potential. Join us on our journey.

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) supports faculty and course instructors in their professional development as teachers, and provides consultations, resources and technology support to enhance learning in their courses and programs. CTL also enhances academic skill development both within and beyond courses through our English Language Development Support, Facilitated Study Groups, Mathematics and Statistics Learning Support, Experiential Learning, and Writing Support programs.

Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.

Your opportunity: As the Educational Technology and Digital Experience Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) by leading the design, development, and maintenance of its websites. You will ensure that all digital platforms are visually engaging, user-friendly, and accessible, while aligning with best practices in web design and the Centre’s vision and mission to enhance teaching and learning. This role combines creative design expertise with technical proficiency to deliver high-quality digital experiences for faculty, students, and staff.

You will administer and support teaching and administrative tools, including content management systems (CMS) such as Drupal, the Learning Management System (Quercus), and other web-based applications, while demonstrating proficiency in web technologies (HTML/CSS), graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, and UX/UI design to deliver high-quality digital experiences. A strong background in teaching and learning environments and pedagogical practices, combined with experience in instructional design, is essential to ensure that online resources and support strategies are effective for UTSC faculty, students, and staff.

In addition to web design and maintenance, you will manage client service requests and respond to teaching and learning queries by triaging them to the appropriate support areas within CTL, analyzing issues, and delivering practical solutions. You will provide timely and effective support through ServiceNow, our ticket management system. This role requires clear communication, collaboration, and tact, while working seamlessly with colleagues to build strong partnerships, foster teamwork, and deliver exceptional support. You will work closely with members of the CTL team, including CTL Communications, and UTSC’s Information and Instructional Technologies (IITS) teams, such as Web & Digital Media and Help Desk, to ensure accurate, efficient, and coordinated support.

You will leverage your instructional design experience, including advising instructors on curriculum development and effective teaching strategies, creating and implementing comprehensive training programs, and developing engaging content for workshops and seminars. This role requires assessing teaching and learning needs, identifying and recommending appropriate technologies, and applying best practices in instructional design to support a wide range of teaching and learning objectives. Strong experience in facilitating educational workshops, evaluating course materials, and utilizing learning management systems to enhance course delivery is essential.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and editing web pages with interactive media and conducting usability testing for web applications
  • Developing and maintaining guidelines and procedures for web and digital media standards, content and use
  • Checking that website design and usability practices meet industry standards
  • Coordinating case assignments based on knowledge of staff expertise
  • Overseeing day‑to‑day service delivery requirements and operational needs
  • Analyzing needs and recommending appropriate technologies for teaching/learning goals
  • Developing, implementing and delivering components of instructional programs
  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in computer science, business or education related fields or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years in instructional design and digital content development.
  • Experience with ITSM platforms and client support workflows.
  • Proficiency in web technologies (HTML/CSS, CMS), graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite), and UX/UI design.
  • Experience with instructional design, in order to create effective and clear training materials and presentations.
  • Experience delivering effective training sessions and workshops using audio‑visual communication and presentation technology.
  • Ability to conduct research on various elements related to technology support work.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as Adobe Acrobat and software development tools for graphical diagramming.
  • Strong collaboration and project management skills.
  • Ability to solve complex technical and logistical problems and demonstrate natural empathy, patience and willingness to find solutions.
  • Ability to exercise tact and discretion regarding confidential materials and matters.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and time management skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure, meet strict deadlines and deal with a high volume of client and vendor demands.
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Ability to work well as a team member in a multi‑professional environment working with a wide range of faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to learn quickly from reference manuals and on‑line help facilities and keep technical skills up to date.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to act on one’s own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Technical certifications in Adobe, Microsoft
