Clark Builders is hiring a motivated and detail-oriented Estimating Intern to join our team in Edmonton. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the construction estimating process, working alongside experienced professionals in the industry. The intern will assist with project cost estimating, quantity takeoffs, budgeting, and proposal preparation. This will be a 4-month work term starting May 2025.

Reporting to: Estimating Manager

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.
  • Review project plans, drawings, and specifications to understand scope and requirements.
  • Support the gathering of quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accurate pricing.
  • Assist in preparing bid proposals and comparing project costs for different bidding scenarios.
  • Help maintain accurate records of estimates and related documentation.
  • Participate in site visits to evaluate project conditions and gather necessary data for estimating purposes.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers/designers, and other team members to ensure all aspects of the estimate are accurate and comprehensive.
  • Use estimating software and tools to develop quantity Takeoffs, Estimates, and Budgets.
  • Contribute to the development of cost databases and templates for future estimating purposes.
  • Assist with any other tasks and duties as required by the estimating team.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a diploma or degree program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a construction-related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of construction processes and project lifecycle.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with construction estimating and/or takeoff software is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • A willingness to learn and gain practical experience in construction estimating.
