Overview

Senior Construction Engineer, Structural - (186967)

HDR is seeking a Senior Construction Engineer to join our Transportation – Construction Services group to work on the Ontario Line Project. Reporting to the Project Manager/Construction Manager, you will help deliver two segmental bridges for the Don Valley Crossing project as part of Ontario Line. HDR is the Technical Advisor for the Ontario Line Program responsible to help deliver one of the largest ever urban transit light-rail infrastructure projects in Toronto.

Responsibilities
  • Attend the project site, full-time, during construction to review progress and verify that construction works conform to contract documents, specifications, and drawings.
  • Liaise with contractors and client representatives.
  • Attend and lead internal and external meetings, as necessary.
  • Review and confirm contractor-submitted shop drawings are in conformance with contract documents.
  • Coordinate quality assurance reviews with the structural engineering team and other Subject Matter Experts.
  • Prepare status reports, observation checklists, daily and weekly reports, and other quality documentation.
  • Collaboratively work with a team of construction professionals, engineers, and technologists to complete daily field observations and document system assurance items.
  • Mentor and oversee training of junior staff, as necessary.
  • Promote and oversee implementation of health and safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience on large bridge construction projects, preferably with advanced bridge construction methods involving post-tensioning and segmental bridge construction.
  • Knowledge and skill in interpreting and applying transportation construction practices; procedures and quality assurance techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Laws and Regulations (Environmental, Health and Safety, etc.) and their application in construction contracts.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and schedule work.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to interact with the owner, design project manager, contractor project manager and/or superintendent, and members of the public.
  • Comfort and physical ability to work on construction sites at large heights.
  • Valid G Driver’s License and ability to drive to site(s) with own vehicle.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field.
  • 10 years related experience in various aspects of construction including estimating, bidding, preparing purchase orders and subcontracts, scheduling, and field engineering.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); Bluebeam, estimating & scheduling software, and web-based document collaboration software.
  • Experience developing and managing construction engineering and inspection programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
