The Student Accessibility Services Department seeks an incumbent responsible for managing the operations and activities of the department, ensuring alignment with its goals, vision, and mission. The role involves promoting awareness of the services offered to encourage acceptance of students with learning difficulties (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD) among the university's teaching community. The incumbent will provide educational support and social guidance for students with disabilities.
The Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain criteria and procedures for determining student eligibility for disability accommodations and services.
- Advise faculty and administrators on legal responsibilities and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
- Maintain a confidential database of students with disabilities and generate reports as required.
- Represent the department on committees and at university events; engage in special projects.
- Visit schools to promote accessibility services and encourage students with disabilities to join Zayed University.
- Manage a caseload of students, oversee support services, and ensure appropriate accommodations in line with UAE Disability Law.
- Coordinate with faculty and departments to deliver accessible curricula tailored to students' learning styles.
- Provide training and orientation to instructors on the educational needs of students with learning difficulties.
- Support teachers in meeting curriculum objectives and adapting materials for students with special needs.
- Conduct academic evaluations and determine suitable accommodations.
- Offer academic tutoring, advising, and skills training to students with learning issues.
- Hold individual sessions to develop study skills or address specific learning challenges.
- Provide progress reports on students as needed.
- Assist in developing policies and initiatives to improve services for students with disabilities.
- Review psychoeducational evaluations and other diagnostic information to determine eligibility for support services.
- Coach students in applying effective academic strategies and resolve classroom-related issues.
- Monitor student progress throughout the academic year.
- Participate in research projects related to disability in academia.
- Develop student initiatives to enhance program completion outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Conduct workshops and presentations on disability issues for faculty and staff development.
The Requirements
Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in supporting individuals with learning disabilities, including providing accommodations. Fluency in Arabic and English is required. Experience in administering services for individuals with disabilities, including implementing accommodations, is essential.
Additional Requirements:
- Understanding of UAE Disabilities Law.
- Awareness of developmental issues faced by university students from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of disability assessment, accommodations, assistive technologies, and support services.
- Excellent organizational, administrative, planning, and facilitation skills.
