Job Purpose
A handyman's primary job purpose is to perform a wide range of maintenance, repair, and improvement tasks across various areas of the Coega Site. The role serves as a versatile problem-solver who can address numerous maintenance issues without requiring specialized contractors for each task.
Key Responsibilities
Storage and Maintenance of Tools
- Monitor that power tools, hand tools, maintenance equipment are kept in good working condition and stored safely.
- Report broken tools/equipment to the Maintenance Manager and, where possible, repair broken maintenance tools.
- Identify the types of tools, equipment, and materials required.
- Request supervisor inspection after work completion.
- Perform duties to eliminate downtime or hazards/safety issues.
General Repairs and Maintenance
- Replace faulty globes and tubes.
- Repair and/or replace electrical equipment (qualified personnel only).
- Fix safety hazards.
- Assemble and repair furniture and equipment.
- Install appliances and machinery.
- Perform plumbing and carpentry tasks.
- Liaise with contractors and other workers.
Attend To
- Broken and collapsing ceilings
- Roof leaks
- Painting of buildings, structures, equipment, and ceilings
- Waterproofing roofs and insulated ceilings
- Replace broken windowpanes, doors, hinges, and locks
- Perform paving, fence, and gate repairs
- Basic bricklaying and plastering
- Repair leaking gutters and downpipes
- Wall and floor tiling as necessary

- Maintain a secure and safe working environment.
- Comply with health and safety procedures.
- Ensure TIMS documentation is applied consistently.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Grade 12
- N3 or equivalent (trades related) (approx. 40% Electrical, 60% Mechanical)
- Driver’s License (Code EC advantageous)
- 2-4 years electrical and mechanical experience
- Clear criminal record
- Ability to work overtime, shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Willingness to travel to cross-docks in George, East London, Mthatha
