Job summary
A leading recruitment agency in South Africa is seeking a Short-Term Insurance Personal Lines Underwriter for a remote opportunity. The role involves managing broker relationships, processing quotations, and handling policy renewals. Candidates should have relevant qualifications and good computer skills. A stable internet connection and dedicated workspace are required. The salary ranges from R15,000 to R20,000 per month.

- FAIS Accreditation and RE 5 credits are mandatory.

- Manage general queries and loading new quotations.
- Follow up on new quotations and policy renewals.
- Liaise with brokers and manage large portfolios.

The main purpose of the underwriting department is to evaluate the risk of insuring a particular person/asset/building/vehicle.
The underwriter does new quotations for brokers with our various insurers. The underwriter would furthermore refer unfavourable risks in accordance with the prescribed underwriting guidelines and policy wording.
Doing daily amendments to a client's existing cover, as well as processing renewals of policies forms part of the day-to-day responsibilities of an underwriter.
Mercury strictly liaises directly with Brokers, and not the client / policy holder / Direct Market. Our client is focused on service delivery and achieving top class turn‑around times.
- General queries
- Loading new quotations
- Follow up new quotations
- Alterations
- Client and broker correspondence
- Confirmation of previous cover
- Follow up on outstanding policy information
- Uploading inspection, tracking and valuation certificates
- Telephonic quotations on existing policies
- Renewals
- NCB adjustments and confirmations
- Managing large broker portfolios and premiums
- Capturing new business policies
- Capturing book takeovers
- Daily, weekly & monthly reporting
- Matric
- FAIS Accreditation – FETC / NQF
- Credits (Minimum): RE 5 – Representatives Exams
- Computer literate: Word / Excel / Outlook
- Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant short‑term insurance policy wording
R15,000–20,000 per month CTC.
- Being able to speak multiple languages will be an advantage.
- Stable and adequate Internet facilities / connection.
- Dedicated workspace.
- Smartphone for using our telephone system etc.
