Head Of Employer Partnerships & Learnerships (Johannesburg)

HyperionDev
Johannesburg
ZAR 800,000 - 1,200,000
Job description
ABOUT US

HyperionDev is one of the largest providers of accelerated tech education in EMEA and one of the oldest providers of 'coding bootcamps' globally. We collaborate with top universities such as Imperial College London, The London School of Economics, The University of Edinburgh, and Stellenbosch University to deliver structured technical courses and bootcamps that fast-track individuals into fulfilling tech careers. Recognized as a top education technology startup worldwide and backed by Meta, we are acknowledged as the most socially impactful startup in Africa, where we initially started our work.

Our mission is to close the global tech skills gap by integrating tech education with human mentorship and expert code review, powered by a workforce in Southern Africa. This approach reduces the cost of accessible technology education, enabling us to reach millions of learners annually across over 60 countries. We partner with government entities like the UK's Department for Education, which provides scholarships for our bootcamps, leading to employment in organizations such as AstraZeneca and the NHS.

Backed by nearly 2000 investors and having raised the largest crowdfunding round for an ed-tech company, we are a profitable, scale-up tech business committed to creating a more stable, safe, and fair world.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our Head of Employer Partnerships & Learnerships, you will join the senior leadership team and own our employer-facing strategy across EMEA. Your role involves setting the direction for engaging with companies to unlock training and talent acquisition opportunities through learnerships, corporate upskilling, and custom B2B training initiatives.

You will also lead the growth of employer-funded revenue, including sales of bootcamps and certificate programs. A key responsibility is managing a high-performing team of Business Development Managers and support staff to achieve over R20 million in annual revenue through strategic business development.

This is a mission-driven role for someone passionate about education's transformative power. You will have the opportunity to shape careers and drive large-scale workforce development, helping thousands unlock their potential.

We seek a commercially savvy, impact-oriented leader with proven experience in acquiring, maintaining, and growing learnership partnerships, and building scalable high-performing business development teams in fast-paced environments.

REQUIREMENTS
Minimum:
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering or acquiring learnership partnerships/training in South Africa
  • At least 2 years leading a team acquiring and delivering employer partnerships to deliver learnerships in South Africa at the scale of over R20 million annually
  • At least 4 years of business development experience as a partnership manager or similar role
  • Deep understanding of employer training and L&D in South Africa with a proven track record of working with companies to scale training operations
  • Knowledge of the BEE ecosystem in South Africa related to learning and development
  • Strong business acumen
  • Skills in strategic analysis, problem solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Undergraduate degree in business, management, law, or a relevant field
Preferred:
  • Experience with Jobs Fund or similar government/employer impact projects in South Africa
  • Experience working with employers that fund or co-fund tech bootcamps
  • At least 3 years delivering or acquiring learnership partnerships in South Africa
  • At least 2 years leading a team in corporate partnerships for apprenticeships, executive education, or business training, specifically in tech skills
  • At least 4 years of business development experience in the tech education sector
  • Understanding of employer training and development across multiple EMEA countries with proven partnership success
  • Strong business acumen
  • Skills in strategic analysis, negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field
  • Experience in high-growth, tech-focused environments
  • Background in education or edtech
BENEFITS

Equity: As a senior leader, you may be eligible for stock options, sharing in our business success. We are backed by international investors and are approaching acquisition by major players in edtech.

Hybrid work: Flexible scheduling with remote options available outside proximity to our campuses.

Bootcamp: Opportunities to enroll in our coding bootcamps part-time.

Global impact: Collaborate with leading figures in edtech across Africa, Europe, and the US, and be part of a high-performing, innovative team.

Life-changing work: Contribute to making education and tech careers accessible to those who need it most—proudly share your impact.

OUR VALUES

We are a people-first company driven by purpose. We believe in people's potential, foster a culture of growth and learning, and relentlessly pursue improvement.
