Job Profile Summary

We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and knowledgeable Ecologist to join our team.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in ecological principles and practices, with substantial experience in assessing and managing complex biodiversity-related projects across sub-Saharan Africa.

The role requires ensuring all work aligns with international frameworks, notably the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standard 6 (PS6) on Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Management of Living Natural Resources, and the Equator Principles.

This position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver projects successfully while promoting sustainable practices and biodiversity protection. 1. Project Management: Lead biodiversity-related projects, ensuring compliance with IFC PS6 and relevant standards. Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, and oversee successful delivery. Supervise junior ecologists and support their professional growth. Understand ERM services and policies in the context of client business models.
2. Biodiversity Assessment: Conduct ecological surveys, habitat assessments, and species inventories. Analyze data to inform planning and mitigation strategies.
3. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with community groups, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders. Prepare reports and presentations on biodiversity management strategies. Support ERM’s global and regional client projects and solutions.
4. Mitigation and Management Strategies: Develop biodiversity management plans and monitoring programs aligned with industry and IFC guidelines. Propose mitigation measures for project impacts.
5. Research and Development: Stay updated on research, regulations, and best practices. Contribute to innovative assessment and management methodologies. Share expertise within the team and globally.
6. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare technical reports, proposals, and compliance documents, ensuring quality standards are met.
7. Health and Safety: Adhere to ERM and client safety policies. Supervise subcontractors during fieldwork to ensure compliance and safety.

• Education: Bachelor's in Ecology, Botany, or related; Master’s preferred.
• Experience: At least 10 years in ecological consulting, biodiversity assessment, with expertise in IFC PS6 and Equator Principles.
• Registration: SACNASP registration required.
• Skills: Proficiency in ecological survey methodologies, GIS, biodiversity assessment tools, and relevant software (e.g., R, ArcGIS). Strong analytical skills.
• Client Interaction: Experience in consulting services for senior clients.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of biodiversity policies, regulations, especially IFC PS6.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for diverse audiences.
• Interpersonal Skills: Leadership, teamwork, stakeholder engagement.
• Additional: Willingness to travel frequently; ability to manage multiple projects flexibly and responsively.
