Job summary
A consulting company is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The candidate will manage environmental assessments, ensure compliance with legislation, and liaise with clients and authorities. A degree in Environmental Science and experience in the mining industry are essential. A valid passport and driver's license are also required for travel across Africa.
Qualifications
- 5-8 years in conducting impact assessments specifically within the mining industry.
- 5-8 years in environmental legal auditing (NEMA, NEMWA, National Water Act and MPRDA).
- Must have a valid passport and driver's license.
Responsibilities
- Effectively project manage Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
- Liaise with clients and authorities for project requirements.
- Compile and write reports for submission to the client.
Skills
Education
A medium sized Consulting company with international offices is looking to hire a Senior Environmental Scientist.
- A degree in Environmental Science / Management
- A Project Management certification would be advantageous.
- 5-8 years in conducting impact assessments specifically within the mining industry.
- 5-8 years in environmental legal auditing (NEMA, NEMWA, National Water Act and MPRDA)
- Knowledge of Applicable Environmental and Mining legislation.
- Knowledge of IFC and World bank principles would be preferable.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and drivers’ license.
- Willing to travel throughout Africa and elsewhere, as the need arises.
- Effectively project manage and administrate the following:
- Basic Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) according to the new EIA legislation (2010)
- Waste Permitting
- Environmental authorisation processes
- EIA and EMP report writing.
- Mining Applications
- Working in close collaboration with specialists from other disciplines.
- Liaising with clients and authorities
- Compile and write reports for submission to the client and necessary authorities.
- Carry out legal audits with regards to relevant legislation.
