This role provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site service, overseeing diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. Checks operational quality of system equipment, instructs customers on operation and maintenance, and acts as a liaison with customers on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects. Interprets customer needs and clarifies responsibilities for problem resolution among sales, customer support, or engineering teams. The position may include various aspects of field support, beyond system hardware and software, PCs, and networking/wireless networking.
This role specifically supports Cargo Vehicle Inspection (CVI) equipment field service engineering for delivered cargo systems, including models such as M60, P60, and ZBV.
Responsibilities
- Carrying out basic repairs and maintenance of cargo systems (CVI).
- Serving as the local point of contact for technical issues related to regional systems.
- Performing general maintenance, fitting, troubleshooting, and fault finding on CVI systems and subsystems.
- Organizing scheduled maintenance and repairs of cargo systems (M60 & P60).
- Providing oral and written responses to 3rd line technical requests from operational sites to site engineers or customer representatives.
- Providing defect liability or post-acceptance support for CVI equipment.
- Completing technical documentation, including service reports, engineering change requests, and inputting service data into a simple database.
- Ensuring all issued equipment (vehicles, spares, consumables, tools, test equipment) are maintained in a safe and suitable condition.
- Interacting respectfully with customers, operators, and staff, sensitive to cultural and language differences.
- Working safely in accordance with H&S instructions.
Qualifications
- Previous experience supporting complex technical products, including engines, drives, PLCs, transmitters & receivers, electrical systems, IT elements, and electrical generators.
- Experience with Mercedes trucks is advantageous.
- A proactive 'can-do' attitude with the ability to complete tasks with limited resources.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in technical contexts.
- Engineering qualification such as BTEC, C&G, HNC, or similar.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of IT networking solutions, with certifications like CCNP or similar preferred.
- Understanding of integrated IT systems including PLC, HV systems, and radar.
