The Turning Machinist is responsible for operating manual and/or CNC turning machines to produce metal components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. This role ensures precision machining, proper tool selection, and efficient production while maintaining safety and housekeeping standards.
Machine Operation
- Set up and operate manual lathe and/or CNC turning machines.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical data, and machining instructions.
- Perform tooling installation, offsets adjustment, and machining parameter setup.
- Ensure correct material loading, clamping, and alignment before machining.
Precision Machining
- Machine metal parts (e.g., steel, aluminium, stainless steel) to required tolerances.
- Perform roughing, finishing, threading, boring, facing, grooving, and chamfering operations.
- Monitor machining process and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy.
Quality Control
- Inspect finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMM reports (if applicable).
- Ensure parts meet dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and specifications.
- Record inspection results and report any non-conformance.
Maintenance & Tooling
- Perform daily machine checks, cleaning, and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Replace worn tools and manage basic tool sharpening/setting.
- Report machine issues to maintenance or supervisor promptly.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to company safety rules, PPE requirements, and 5S practices.
- Ensure safe operation during machining, handling materials, and using lifting equipment.
- Maintain clean and organized workstation at all times.
Production Support
- Assist in process improvement and cycle time optimization.
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and QC on machining issues.
- Support other machining operations when required.
Requirements
- Certificate/Diploma in Machining, Metal Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 1–3 years experience in turning/machining operations (manual or CNC).
- Strong knowledge of turning processes and machining parameters.
- Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring instruments.
- Basic understanding of CNC programming (Fanuc, Siemens, or similar is an advantage).
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines.
- This is a fixed-term contract employment for 6 months. If the contract is successfully completed and both sides are satisfied, there have high chances to be converted as permanent employees.
