Install a refrigeration system by planning the layout, selecting and mounting components (compressor, condenser, evaporator), connecting refrigerant and electrical lines, testing for leaks, charging with refrigerant, and ensuring proper functionality and safety.
Maintenance and Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on refrigerated transportation equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting parts.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment issues, such as refrigeration unit malfunctions, temperature control problems, or mechanical failures.
- Conduct preventive maintenance tasks to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment life.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostic Skills
- Use specialized tools and software to diagnose equipment problems and identify root causes.
- Develop effective solutions to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
- Understand refrigeration principles, including thermodynamics, temperature control, and humidity management.
- Familiarity with various refrigerant types, their properties, and handling procedures.
Safety Protocols
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Identify potential safety hazards and take corrective action to mitigate risks.
Inventory Management
- Manage inventory of spare parts, supplies, and materials needed for maintenance and repairs.
- Order necessary parts and materials in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
Communication
Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers to report equipment status, issues, and solutions.
Provide detailed reports on maintenance activities, repairs, and recommendations for future improvements.
Quality Control
- Conduct quality control checks on repaired equipment to ensure it meets company standards.
- Verify that all repairs are completed accurately and efficiently.
Requirements
- Post‑secondary education in a related field (e.g., refrigeration technology, mechanics)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in refrigerated transportation equipment maintenance or repair
- Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, electrical systems, and mechanical systems
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, EPA)
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperatures
- Physical stamina to perform tasks that require bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing
- Strong problem‑solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred)
Working Conditions
- Work environment may be physically demanding, with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, noise levels, and confined spaces
