Job summary

A newly established engineering firm in Kedah is seeking a Customer Support Engineer to manage full design cycles and provide technical leadership for construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of MEP systems, with a focus on compliance and coordination. Candidates should possess a relevant Bachelor's degree and have significant experience in design and construction. It's a permanent position aimed at enhancing project delivery in Kulim High Tech Park.

Job description
Customer Support Engineer (Based at Kulim)

Lead and manage the full design cycle for projects, including concept, detailed design, and construction drawings.

Coordinate with architects, M&E consultants, structural engineers, and specialist vendors to ensure seamless design integration. Review and approve design submissions, ensuring compliance. Identify design discrepancies and propose effective technical solutions.

Technical Coordination & Construction Support

Provide technical leadership during pre‑construction and construction phases.

Work closely with project managers, construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve technical issues on site.

Conduct regular design coordination meetings and technical reviews. Support procurement by evaluating technical proposals, materials, and equipment selection.

Quality, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure all design and technical works comply with local authorities, building codes, and safety regulations. Implement and monitor design risk assessments, value engineering activities, and quality control processes. Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, updated, and reflects actual site conditions (as‑built).

Stakeholder Management

Act as the main technical liaison between client, consultants, and internal project teams. Present design clarifications, technical reports, and progress updates to key stakeholders. Manage expectations, ensuring all technical requirements and deliverables meet client standards.

Lead and review technical submissions for tenders, including confirming scope of works, design proposals, specifications, and method statements.

Review and evaluate tender requirements, specifications, and contract conditions to ensure compliance with required standards. Coordinate with QS, procurement, engineering, and project management to prepare accurate cost estimates, technical clarifications, and value engineering proposals.

Liaise with clients, vendors, and subcontractors during tender clarifications and technical discussions. Develop technical strategies and value‑engineering solutions to enhance competitiveness of bids. Assess tender drawings, identify design gaps, and propose technical alternatives to optimize cost, constructability, and compliance standards.

Maintain a tender database, track submission deadlines, and ensure timely delivery of all tender documents. Participate in tender interviews, presentations, and negotiations with clients.

Ensure all pre‑contract technical requirements, risks, and assumptions are clearly documented and communicated to the project team. Support management in post‑tender negotiations and contract finalization.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related discipline. Minimum 8–12 years’ experience in design and construction, with at least 3 years projects.

Strong understanding of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical power distribution, UPS, generators, fire protection systems). Proven experience with Tier‑level design (Tier II–IV) and reliability/redundancy systems.

Familiar with Malaysian authority submission processes (BOMBA, TNB, IWK, Local Council).

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make fast, well‑informed technical decisions. Excellent coordination, communication, and leadership skills.

Experience working with main contractors is an advantage.
