Position: Technical Manager (Design & Construction – Data Centre Project)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager with strong expertise in design and construction for Data Centre projects. The ideal candidate will lead multi-disciplinary technical teams, coordinate design development, and ensure all engineering solutions meet project specifications, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. This role is crucial for delivering high-quality, technically sound data centre facilities on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design Management

Lead and manage the full design cycle for data centre projects, including concept, detailed design, and construction drawings.

Coordinate with architects, M&E consultants, structural engineers, and specialist vendors to ensure seamless design integration.

Review and approve design submissions, ensuring compliance with Data Centre standards (TIA-942, Uptime Tier, ASHRAE).

Identify design discrepancies and propose effective technical solutions.

2. Technical Coordination & Construction Support

Provide technical leadership during pre-construction and construction phases.

Work closely with project managers, construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve technical issues on site.

Conduct regular design coordination meetings and technical reviews.

Support procurement by evaluating technical proposals, materials, and equipment selection.

3. Quality, Compliance & Risk Management

Ensure all design and technical works comply with local authorities, building codes, and safety regulations.

Implement and monitor design risk assessments, value engineering activities, and quality control processes.

Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, updated, and reflects actual site conditions (as-built).

4. Stakeholder Management

Act as the main technical liaison between client, consultants, and internal project teams.

Present design clarifications, technical reports, and progress updates to key stakeholders.

Manage expectations, ensuring all technical requirements and deliverables meet client standards.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.

Minimum 8–12 years experience in design and construction, with at least 3 years in Data Centre projects.

Strong understanding of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical power distribution, UPS, generators, fire protection systems) relevant to data centre environments.

Proven experience with Tier-level design (Tier II–IV) and reliability/redundancy systems.

Familiar with Malaysian authority submission processes (BOMBA, TNB, IWK, Local Council).

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to make fast, well‑informed technical decisions.

Excellent coordination, communication, and leadership skills.

Experience working with main contractors is an advantage.
