Job summary

A leading engineering and infrastructure advisory firm in Malaysia is seeking an experienced tax professional to manage tax obligations across Asia. The role involves acting as a trusted advisor on domestic and international matters, preparing tax returns, and ensuring compliance with various regulations. Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years in tax, strong communication skills, and experience in a multinational environment. A proficiency in Mandarin or other Asian languages is preferred.

Job description
What will you do?

In this role, you will play a critical role in managing and delivering Aurecon’s tax obligations across Asia, providing high‑quality tax advice to the business, and supporting strong governance, compliance, and risk management across multiple jurisdictions.

You will work closely with Country Managers, Regional Finance Teams, and the broader Group Tax and Finance leadership, acting as a trusted advisor on both domestic and international tax matters.

Core responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Lead the preparation and review of income tax returns for Asia entities, including in‑depth analysis of cross‑border transactions across the full project lifecycle (bid to execution)
  • Manage withholding tax and indirect tax obligations across Asia, ensuring timely compliance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Act as the primary tax advisor to the business on domestic and international tax matters, with a strong focus on cross‑border arrangements
  • Partner with Country Managers, Regional Finance Teams, and external advisors to manage tax risks, opportunities, and compliance requirements
  • Oversee tax effect accounting for interim and year‑end financial reporting, including preparation of tax notes, journals, and supporting documentation
  • Lead and coordinate regional tax authority reviews, audits, and tax refund applications
  • Support tax planning initiatives and contribute to the mitigation of tax risk across the Asia region
  • Drive compliance with evolving tax legislation, including Country‑by‑Country reporting and BEPS Pillar 2.0 requirements
  • Provide tax legislation updates and technical position papers to inform and support business decision‑making
  • Collaborate with the broader Finance team to streamline, standardise, and improve tax data and reporting processes

You will also bring:
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in tax, either within professional services or a large corporate environment
  • Experience across a broad range of taxes, combined with strong accounting and reporting knowledge
  • Extensive experience working across Asia is essential
  • Strong understanding of cross‑border tax issues and regional regulatory environments
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in Mandarin or other Asian languages is highly regarded
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders and external advisors
