A leading engineering firm in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Substation Commissioning Lead & Service Engineer to manage and coordinate commissioning activities. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Power, or Instrumentation Engineering and possess 7-10 years of experience in substation commissioning and testing. Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams are essential. This role emphasizes effective communication with clients and ensures compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Review engineering drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and schematics to ensure readiness for commissioning activities.
Develop and review test procedures, commissioning schedules, and related documentation.
Coordinate with internal teams, including design, construction, and testing, to plan upcoming commissioning activities.
Liaise with clients to report progress, testing status, and any technical issues requiring resolution.
Coordinate and supervise daily and weekly test programs with testing teams and client representatives.
Perform or oversee primary testing of current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs), circuit breakers, isolators, and busbar systems.
Conduct secondary injection tests on protection relays and associated instruments.
Verify functional performance of control and interlocking circuits, SCADA integration, and signal mapping.
Ensure proper wiring, cable terminations, and configuration across all systems, including AC and DC networks.
Coordinate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for testing and verification of both primary and secondary equipment.
Identify, troubleshoot, and rectify any wiring or configuration issues encountered during commissioning.
Support system energization and end-to-end functional testing to ensure operational integrity.
3. Documentation & Handover
Prepare detailed commissioning reports, test records, and technical documentation for client review and approval.
Support client representatives during performance testing and final handover of the substation.
Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical, Power, or Instrumentation Engineering.
Minimum 7–10 years of experience in substation commissioning, testing, or protection engineering.
Strong understanding of protection, control, and automation systems.
Familiarity with IEC 61850, SCADA, and related communication protocols.
Hands-on experience with relay testing equipment (e.g., Omicron, Megger) is an advantage.
Thorough knowledge of electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Strong communication and coordination abilities with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
