We are currently looking for talented individuals to join us for the Social Compliance Specialist role. We are based at KL Eco City, Malaysia.
The Social Compliance leads labour social compliance audit deployment, supplier engagement, corrective action planning, training delivery, and escalation handling, with a focus on China-based yards and regional vendors. This role integrates human rights, ethical sourcing, and HSE and ethic and compliance practices, aligning with recognized labour and social compliance standards and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier/Vendor/Subcontractor Engagement
- Manage due diligence process including labour/social audits and verification assessments aligned to international labour/social audits process such as SMETA/SA8000/BSCI.
- Identify systemic issues, develop root‑cause analysis, and create KPIs to closure. Conduct on‑site and remote support to improve compliance maturity and worker protections.
- Guide suppliers on labour and social compliance management systems, documentation, and worker voice/grievance mechanisms.
- Maintain regular dialogue with suppliers and internal teams.
Corrective Action Plan (CAP) Creation & Verification
- Support suppliers to build robust CAPs addressing root causes, timelines, owners, and verification steps.
- Validate closure through evidence review, follow‑up audits, and worker interviews.
Review Vendor/ Supplier vetting & prequalification process
- Review, document, and risk‑rank subcontractors and vendors/suppliers.
- Work with Compliance/ Procurement/Contract and HSE to close gaps and enforce onboarding /prequalification requirements.
Training Delivery
- Design and deliver training for suppliers on social compliance (SMETA, SA8000, and Amfori BSCI, etc) expectations, grievance mechanisms, working hours/wages, and remediation best practices.
- Tailor curricula for supervisors, HR, and worker representatives (Mandarin/English).
Data & Reporting
- Keep accurate records of findings, CAP progress, training coverage, and grievance outcomes.
- Prepare dashboards and monthly/quarterly reports for management and customers.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5–8+ years in social compliance, ethical sourcing, or human rights due diligence within manufacturing, shipyards, or heavy industry supply chains. Good experience working with Chinese vendors and suppliers.
- Standards: Hands‑on experience with SMETA, SA8000, and Amfori BSCI audit frameworks, including non‑compliance classification and remediation.
- Auditing Skills: Strong evidence collection, worker interview, document review, and root‑cause analysis capabilities. Audit qualification is preferred but not must.
- Remediation: Proven track record of developing and verifying effective CAPs, engaging and supporting suppliers/vendors and subcontractors, and ensuring sustainable remediation.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel frequently to China yards and regional supplier locations.
- Tools: Proficient with audit management systems, case management tools, and productivity platforms (Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint/Slides).
- Language: Fluent in English and Mandarin as the role requires to communicate & negotiate with suppliers in China; ability to deliver training and write reports in both languages.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Supply Chain, HSE, Business, Law) or equivalent experience.

Reports to: Human Rights Lead (work with Legal & Compliance / HSE )
Works closely with: Procurement, HSE, Legal & Compliance, Operations, Regional HSE Site Managers
