Job Description
About the team

Team Automat is a platform engineering team on a simple mission: make developers’ lives easier. We build the systems and tooling that abstract away the complexity of deploying, running, and operating production apps—so product engineers can focus on business logic, not infrastructure.
Sitting between application teams and core infrastructure, we translate app intent into reliable, scalable, secure workloads. Think automatic transmission and safety systems for software delivery—enabling teams to ship faster and operate more safely.

We’re a small, driven team that values ownership, pragmatism, and engineering excellence. Our impact is broad: when we do our job well, dozens of teams move faster and create more customer value. If you like solving foundational problems and enabling engineers at scale, join us.

About the role

We are building an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) on top of Kubernetes to significantly improve developer experience across SEEK. A core part of this platform is an internal, developer‑facing tool that enables teams to self‑serve infrastructure and platform capabilities in a consistent and reliable way. You will join a small, high-impact team responsible for designing and building the foundational developer experience for the platform. This role requires both strong technical design capability and the ability to contribute directly to implementation.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build platform capabilities on top of Kubernetes to enable a scalable and intuitive developer experience
  • Contribute to the architecture and implementation of developer tooling and self‑service workflows
  • Build and evolve Kubernetes‑native solutions, including operators, controllers, and abstractions
  • Collaborate closely with platform, infrastructure, and product engineering teams
  • Drive best practices in software engineering, cloud‑native development, and platform reliability
  • Influence technical decisions within the team and across the broader organization
Key Technologies
  • AWS EKS
  • Kubernetes
  • Argo CD (GitOps)
  • Buildkite (CI/CD)
  • Datadog & PagerDuty (observability and incident management)
  • Golang, TypeScript
Required Skills & Experience
  • Good knowledge of software engineering principles, SDLC, and modern development practices
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining production‑grade software systems
  • Good understanding and application of design patterns
  • Experience with observability: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting
Cloud & Kubernetes
  • Good conceptual and hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, particularly in a platform or enablement context
  • Experience building on top of Kubernetes, such as custom operators, controllers, or developer tooling
  • Experience in the Cloud Native ecosystem, including: service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio), GitOps practices (e.g., Argo CD)
  • Experience designing and supporting cloud‑first applications, preferably on AWS
  • Experience with AWS EKS or similar managed Kubernetes platforms
CI/CD & Operations
  • Experience applying and continuously improving CI/CD practices
  • Familiarity with production operations, incident management, and reliability concerns
Qualifications
  • Experience creating and maintaining software in two or more modern programming languages, including Golang
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to lead and influence technical outcomes
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in an engineering platform environment
Nice to Have
  • Experience with developer productivity or platform engineering teams
  • Experience using AI‑assisted coding tools (for example, Cursor and Claude)
  • Prior experience building internal platforms or self‑service developer tooling
