A marine engineering company is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to manage source inspections for topside equipment in Kuala Lumpur. The successful candidate will plan and coordinate inspection activities, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards. With a Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 8 years in QA/QC roles, familiarity with marine equipment and relevant certifications are essential for this role. Job Purpose:
Plan, coordinate, and execute source inspection activities for topside equipment and packages at vendor facilities. Ensure compliance with project specifications, classification society requirements, and international standards before shipment to integration yard or offshore site.
Responsibilities:
Planning and Coordination
Review vendor QA/QC documentation (ITPs, FAT procedures, welding and coating specs).
Develop source inspection plans aligned with project quality requirements.
Coordinate inspection schedules with vendors and third-party inspectors.
Involvement in criticality assessment either by project or major vendor packages.
Execution of Source Inspection
Perform inspections at vendor facilities for topsides packages during fabrication and assembly.
Witness FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) for pumps, valves, and marine systems.
Verify compliance with Class rules, client specifications, and applicable codes (API, ASME, ISO).
Issue inspection reports and manage punch lists.
Issuance of IRN prior shipment or delivery to the yards.
Assist Package Manager/Package Engineer to ensure that NCRs and OWLs are closed prior to shipment.
Escalate critical quality issues to Lead QAQC and QAQC Manager with regards to any issue within source inspection activities.
Capture lessons learned from vendor inspections.
Recommend improvements to vendor qualification and inspection processes.
Requirements
Open for Malaysian only
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant specialization.
Minimum ten (8) years’ experience in QA/QC works related to modules/topsides fabrication inclusive with source inspection activities. Must have managed not less than two (2) projects involving floater/vessel conversion, and minimum one (1) FPSO project phase.
COMPETENCIES
Functional
ISO 9001 internal auditor certification.
Knowledge of marine equipment standards (API, ASME, ABS/DNV).
Familiarity with FAT procedures and NDT techniques.
Certified with CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent is an added advantage
