Job description
What role you will play in our team

The Senior Metallurgy & Welding Engineer position is part of the well‑established Asia‑Pacific Materials Integrity team based in Menara ExxonMobil, Kuala Lumpur. The role is to provide engineering supports to Capital Projects and Operations across all business lines. We are expanding our organization and looking for experienced individuals with an innovative mind‑set to drive change in our business, and who enjoy working in dynamic, collaborative, and diverse global teams.

What you will do
  • Provide engineering surveillance and technical support to the business for materials‑related works
  • Participate in global and site‑wide programs aimed at improving unit reliability and optimizing maintenance
  • Provide on‑site field support during scheduled maintenance activities
  • Develop and implement new technology & innovative solutions to non‑routine problems
  • Provide materials specialist support for large capital projects and smaller regional projects to ensure technical quality
  • Apply deep technical expertise and broad business acumen to solve more complex problems
  • Represent ExxonMobil in industry and external engagement activities (e.g. MTI, API and AMPP) where appropriate
  • Mentor early career materials integrity engineers to support their career development
  • Perform a failure analysis for a problem involving metallurgical deficiency or a change in material properties
  • Participate in the development of a specification for the procurement of new equipment
  • Review a materials certificate/test report/mill certificate to confirm conformance with specification requirements
  • Review material manufacturing, and fabrication or installation specification for common applications
  • Participate in mill audits, vendor evaluations, or production runs for routine materials manufacturing work
  • Participate in studies to assess the performance of a material or assembly
  • Troubleshoot a materials manufacturing production, and fabrication or installation problemReview welding procedure and consumable selection to determine suitability for common applications and conformance with industry codes and standards
  • Review test lab results in investigating the metallurgy of a weld, examining welds rejected from procedure qualification/production testing, and studying weld defects
  • Review and comment on Inspection and Test Plan or Inspection Instructions related to welding
About you
Skills and Qualifications
  • Have at least 10 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas industry
  • Demonstrate work experience and knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    • Metallurgy and Manufacturing
    • Welding/Fabrication
    • Inspection/Testing
    • NDE (Non‑Destructive Examination)
    • Failure Analysis
    • Materials selection

  • Demonstrate collaborations across the organization and appropriate external relationships
