Job summary

A leading global manufacturer in Malaysia is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide legal advice, manage contracts, and ensure compliance with local and corporate standards. The ideal candidate will have a BA or MA in Law, MAICSA qualification preferred, and 5-8+ years of relevant experience. Proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and English is essential. This role offers the opportunity to engage with various stakeholders and handle complex legal matters in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• 5-8+ years of experience as Legal Counsel, Legal Advisor or Company Secretary preferably in a MNC.
• Excellent knowledge of contract law, company and corporate law.
• Educated business acumen.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Providing legal advice and support in all legal matters, directly reporting to the Group General Counsel
• Responsibility for contract review and contract negotiations (e.g. purchasing contracts)
• Administration of contracts and other corporate legal documents in electronic contract lifecycle management tool
• Managing company secretarial work, ideally qualification as chartered company secretary
• Act as point of contact for all compliance matters ensuring that Group Compliance Standards are applied and implemented locally, including providing trainings
• Act as sparring partner for local management and other stakeholders
• Advising on insurance claims and acting as point of contact for local insurance brokers
• Handling of day-to-day corporate law matters; liaising and coordinating with local counsel on extraordinary corporate law matters
• Educated business acumen

Qualifications

• BA or MA in Law is a must; MAICSA qualification preferred
• 5-8+ years of experience as Legal Counsel, Legal Advisor or Company Secretary preferably in a MNC
• Excellent knowledge of contract law, company and corporate law
• High knowledge and competence in general legal matters
• Excellent communication skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English
• Ability to analyze and handle complex legal topics and offer efficient and workable solutions
