The Senior Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and operations of enterprise UNIX systems, hypervisor platforms, and backup/restore technologies. This role ensures platform reliability, security, and performance while supporting modernization and automation initiatives across the infrastructure landscape.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Administer and support enterprise UNIX/Linux systems (RHEL, AIX, or equivalent).
- Perform OS hardening, patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Implement and support clustering, HA, and DR configurations.
- Operate, optimize, and troubleshoot hypervisor environments (VMware, KVM, or equivalent).
- Support VM provisioning, resource optimization, capacity planning, and lifecycle management.
- Participate in upgrades, migration, and hypervisor performance improvements.
Backup & Recovery Operations
- Perform backup policy configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and restore operations.
- Support DR exercises and contribute to restoration readiness and documentation.
Automation & Scripting
- Develop scripts to automate routine tasks (Bash, Python, Ansible).
- Contribute to configuration management and standardization initiatives.
- Support automation for provisioning, patching, and compliance.
Incident, Problem & Change Management
- Act as L3 escalation for UNIX, backup, and hypervisor-related incidents.
- Perform root‑cause analysis and propose long‑term fixes.
- Prepare implementation plans, perform impact assessments, and execute changes safely.
Security & Compliance
- Implement platform security controls aligned with corporate security requirements.
- Support vulnerability remediation on UNIX systems and hypervisors.
- Ensure backup retention, encryption, logging, and audit compliance.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, architecture diagrams, and runbooks.
- Provide technical mentoring to junior engineers and operational teams.
Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong experience in UNIX/Linux administration (RHEL, AIX, or similar).
- Hands‑on expertise with VMware/KVM hypervisors.
- Proficiency in enterprise backup technologies (NetBackup, Veeam, Commvault).
- Solid scripting experience (Bash, Python); knowledge of Ansible preferred.
- Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing) and storage technologies.
Professional Experience
- 5–10 years in Systems Engineering or Infrastructure roles.
- Demonstrated experience supporting production environments with 24/7 availability.
- Experience in performing migrations, upgrades, performance tuning, and system recovery.
Preferred Certifications
- VMware VCP
- Vendor‑specific backup certifications (e.g., NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam)
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
