A manufacturing company specializing in thermal systems is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and engineering of plate heat exchangers. The role involves preparing technical documentation and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and at least 4 years of experience in a relevant manufacturing environment. Strong CAD skills and familiarity with engineering codes, particularly ASME and ISO 9001, are essential.
Lead the mechanical design and engineering of plate heat exchangers in line with customer specifications, international standards, and company procedures.
Prepare and review comprehensive design documentation including engineering drawings, calculations (e.g., C.O.G., FBICDS, DWC, DESIGN STRENGTH), and inspection procedures upon order confirmation.
Operate 2D/3D CAD software to create accurate and compliant drawings (PA/GA drawings).
Ensure proper use of engineering drafting standards: scales, projection angles, surface roughness, geometric tolerancing, and basic fit tolerances.
Apply knowledge of welding processes, symbols, and materials (metal and non-metal) related to PHE manufacturing.
Perform technical reviews to ensure compliance with ASME, JIS, and company standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
Support internal teams (Sales, Production, QC, Engineering) with design-related technical assistance and resolve arising design or production issues.
Liaise with vendors and fabricators to address technical challenges and ensure smooth execution.
Conduct NSDA (Non-Standard Design Application) reviews and implement cost-effective, non‑conformance‑free designs.
Manage and maintain accurate design documentation and ensure compliance with design SOPs and standards.
Participate in improvement projects, including cost studies, testing, and workflow optimization.
Act as a technical contact point for internal stakeholders and customers for all design-related inquiries.
Promote continuous improvement by suggesting initiatives to enhance design processes, workflows, and documentation.
Ensure professional conduct in line with company values and represent the organization positively.
To perform ad hoc duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field.
Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in engineering rules within a manufacturing environment, preferably with direct experience in heat exchangers or related thermal transfer equipment.
Experienced with relevant industry standards and codes related to pressure vessel and/or heat exchangers such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Section VIII, TEMA standards, Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), and other applicable regional or international regulations.
Strong command of CAD tools (2D and 3D), mechanical design calculations, and thermal engineering basics.
Familiarity with PHE components, model codes, terminology, and working principles.
Solid understanding of ASME and JIS standards related to PHE.
Experience with ISO 9001 processes and documentation compliance.
Excellent problem‑solving skills, detail orientation, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
