An international service solutions firm is looking for a Senior Cassandra Database Administrator to join their team in Kuala Lumpur. This role involves day-to-day database administration, performance tuning, and providing operational support, along with mentoring other administrators. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in Cassandra database management and skills in SQL, Unix/Linux, and Python among other technical proficiencies. This position requires a strong emphasis on high availability and compliance with data protection standards.
As a Senior Cassandra Database Administrator, you will be a part of a growing international team based in Kuala Lumpur Center. We are seeking candidates with a wide range of expertise and skills in Cassandra database support such as day‑to‑day administration, performance tuning, monitoring and Backup/restore. You will mentor other database administrators and share your expertise within a large database team.
Database Maintenance, housekeeping, troubleshooting.
Identify and resolve database performance issues, including tuning SQL queries, optimizing indexing, and implementing necessary database changes.
Incident, problem and change management of database‑related incidents and problems, both in collaboration with other technical teams.
Provide operational support, including capacity planning, system performance analysis, and resource utilization monitoring.
Develop and maintain documentation related to database administration procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
Installation, configuration and lifecycle migrations/upgrades and patch management.
Conduct ongoing monitoring and proactive management of database systems to ensure high availability and performance.
Support database backup and recovery activities, ensuring appropriate backup strategies and disaster recovery plans are in place.
SQL (CQL) database programming.
Unix/Linux, Python, Shell scripting.
Participate in an on‑call rotation schedule to ensure 24/7 availability and response to critical incidents.
Implement and maintain Cassandra disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
Official acknowledged university / college qualifications.
Certified corresponding post‑education or training in Cassandra database administration areas.
At least 5 years of experience working in Cassandra database.
Problem analysis, resolution and error debugging including skills in raising support requests with vendors.
Database performance tuning (configuration related and application code tuning).
Database installation and configuration including patching.
Backup and recovery, cloning and duplication.
Space management analysis and object reorganization.
Database patching and migrations.
Database user management (authorisation and authentication). Analysis of database performance reports.
Advanced Unix/Linux, Shell scripting, Python programming skills.
SQL (CQL) database programming.
Comprehensive knowledge of database security.
Knowledge of another database technology: PostgreSQL, Redis Cache is a plus.
Experience in software methodology, processes and quality assurance.
Knowledge in the area of IT security.
Profound interest in new technologies and self‑motivated troubleshooting.
Experience with cloud applications (Azure and GCP).
