Job summary

A leading architectural firm in Johor, Malaysia, is seeking an experienced architect to handle project feasibility, design quality, and compliance. The role involves conceptualizing designs, preparing documentation, and liaising with clients and contractors. Successful candidates should have at least 8 years of experience and a Masters or Degree in Architecture. Priority will be given to those registered with LAM and those with interior design experience. This position demands a strong grasp of architectural standards and excellent project management skills.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize concept and schematic design;
  • Ensure design quality and authority compliance;
  • Carry out feasibility studies and present design proposal;
  • Prepare tender documentation, schedule and material specification;
  • Liaise and discuss project-relevant issue with client and coordinate with consultant and contractor;
  • Oversee progress of site work and resolve any arising issue;
  • Develop idea, keeping in mind of client need, building usage and environmental impact;
  • Identify client need and put together feasibility report and design proposal;
  • Make on site visit to check on project status, report on project.
Critical Work Functions & Key Tasks
Feasibility and Design Support
  • Support the design process to meet project objectives;
  • Support the preparation of reports on the outcomes of site and zoning analysis;
  • Assist to design to the client's brief, budget, timeline and in compliance with authorities' requirements;
  • Assist in the development of designs taking into consideration technical aspects, relevant codes and standards, and good practice;
  • Support design developments and resolution of technical issues;
  • Take notes during meetings and produce meeting minutes.
Documentation and Tendering
  • Draft project schedule;
  • Administer a standard form of contract;
  • Gather necessary information for work approvals based on regulatory and legislative prerequisites;
  • Conduct a procurement exercise.
Construction and Completion
  • Take notes during site meetings and produce site minutes;
  • Check designs for compliance with authorities' requirements;
  • Check that construction work satisfies the design intent;
  • Check the construction work and quality.
People and Organisational Functions
  • Gather information on continuous improvement opportunities to architectural services;
  • Support the use of the latest built environment trends and technologies;
  • Adopt environmental sustainability and green building methods;
  • Direct and supervise architectural assistants to adhere to drawing standards and design specifications.
