Job summary

A leading free zone authority in Selangor is seeking a Safety & Health Officer to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Responsibilities include advising on safety measures, preparing reports, and conducting inspections to maintain workplace safety. Candidates should possess a degree or diploma in Environmental, Safety or Health-related fields, with knowledge of legislations and safety qualifications being advantageous. Qualifications

  • Knowledge of current Safety & Health legislations.
  • A certified Safety & Health Officer by NIOSH or other body is an advantage.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to government’s and local authorities’ laws and regulations related to safety, health, and environment at the workplace, free zone and tenant’s premises;
  • Advise the employer and tenant of free zone on the measures to be taken in the interests of the safety and health of the persons employed at the workplace, free zone and tenant’s premises;
  • Advise the employer and tenant of free zone on the measures to be taken relating to the prevention, abatement, control of pollution and enhancement of the environment;
  • Investigate accident, near‑miss accident, dangerous occurrence, occupational poisoning or occupational disease that has occurred at the workplace, free zone, and tenant’s premises;
  • Prepare investigation report and make recommendations to the employer and tenant of free zone on remedial measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents;
  • Collect, analyse and maintain statistics on accidents, near‑miss accidents, dangerous occurrences, occupational poisoning or diseases that have occurred at the workplace, free zone and tenant’s premises;
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 QMS and ISO 45001:2018 OSH MS;
  • Assist the employer in organizing and implementing safety, health and environmental programmes in the facilities;
  • Submit JKKP 8 online to DOSH via MyKKP before 31st January of each year;
  • Check and approve tenant’s requests to handle dangerous goods (DG) in the free zone;
  • Liaison Officer for PKFZ for matters related to safety, health, and environment at the workplace, free zone and tenant’s premises;
  • Responsible for overall planning and implementation on Environment, Occupational Safety and Health matters within workplaces;
  • Advise employers or persons in charge of a place of work on measures to improve safety and health of employees;
  • Inspect places of work to determine whether machinery, plant, equipment, substances, appliances or processes meet safety requirements;
  • Investigate any accident, near‑miss accident, dangerous occurrence, occupational poisoning or disease that has happened in the place of work;
  • Assist the safety and health committee in inspections to check the effectiveness and efficacy of measures in compliance with Acts, Regulations and Guidelines;
  • Collect, analyse and maintain statistics on any accidents, dangerous occurrences, occupational poisoning and diseases at the place of work;
  • Brief all employees and contractors on environmental/health & safety policy and procedures;
  • Prepare, plan and implement safe waste disposal strategies, manage budgets and ensure all waste disposal activities comply with environmental laws and regulations;
  • Conduct internal environmental system audits and lead external audits, creating audit findings, determining corrective and preventive actions and closing out audit findings.
Requirements
  • Minimum Degree/Diploma in any discipline preferably in Environmental, Safety & Health or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of incident reporting and current Safety & Health legislations;
  • Competency in the Green Book/Yellow Book and training in Safety or First Aid Qualification;
  • A certified Safety & Health Officer (by NIOSH or any other certifying body) is an added advantage;
  • Independent, sharp‑minded, positive attitude and good team player;
  • Good interpersonal skills and customer liaison;
