A leading materials company in Penang is seeking a researcher to conduct R&D projects on polymers and sustainable materials. The role involves lab operations, customer support, and cross-functional collaboration. Candidates should have a PhD or Master's in relevant fields and familiarity with plastic processing methods. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct R&D projects on polymers, sustainable materials, and biomass, and perform hands-on activities including processing, sample preparation, testing, data collection, data analysis, and troubleshooting of material-related issues.
Plan and conduct lab-scale process studies to optimize formulations and processing parameters, and support scale-up activities at the production level.
Support all phases of R&D, including literature reviews, collaboration with external partners, formulation development, method development, and process improvement initiatives.
Provide technical support (remote or on-site) to customers, including conducting preliminary trials on customer production machines, optimizing processes, troubleshooting issues, clarifying requirements, and recommending suitable formulations or design solutions.
Work with cross-functional teams to monitor project progress, resolve technical issues, define scale-up specifications, and ensure consistent quality performance.
Gather, evaluate, and share information on new technologies, industry trends, and R&D/NPI-related developments.
Manage daily laboratory operations and ensure compliance with MS ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 standards.
Perform any other tasks assigned by the superior from time to time.
Requirements:
PhD or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, with a strong foundation in polymer science, bioplastics, biocomposites, or biomass technology.
Familiar with key plastic processing methods, including compounding, extrusion, injection molding, and thermoforming.
Willing to work in challenging, high-temperature environments and spend extra time when required to support plastic processing operations.
Able to design and conduct experiments on material formulation, property improvement, and process enhancement.
Understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and MS ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
Knowledge and experience in product carbon footprint assessment and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Creative and resourceful in R&D and troubleshooting.
Able to communicate and present effectively at all levels, internally and externally.
Strong ability to work independently on R&D and laboratory activities.
