The Research Analyst provides stock coverage on assigned clients within Malaysia. Reporting to the Head of Research, the Research Analyst provides recommendations based on thorough analysis and company insights. He/she must be able to present and market their ideas effectively internally, to institutional sales and sales traders, and externally to clients. Typically he/she should cover 8–12 companies, determined by the Head of Research.
Key Areas of Responsibilities
Product
- Ensure the team has adequate financial models & valuation databases for all stocks under primary coverage. At a minimum these models should be robust, internally consistent and have the ability to perform sensitivity analysis on key earnings drivers.
Contribution
- Support the writing of investment product, including company, sector and thematic reports.
- Respond to market news, earnings releases, corporate developments and other market‑moving information when necessary and in a proactive manner.
Client Contact
- Conduct bespoke work for clients, supporting the development of strong key client relationships
- Develop working relationships with corporates, clients and government/industry organisations
Teamwork
- Analysts should view their role as an integral part of the team's success. Effective teamwork contribution; actively generate ideas for the teams development; communicate issues that require action; support each other and ask for help when needed.
- Where appropriate proactive measures must be taken to ensure views, assumptions and forecasts are consistent with top down and sector views.

- Broker ratings held for Tier 1, Tier 2 etc accounts as measured by the client
- Market share in all markets that CLSA operates in
- Research earnings and recommendation accuracy measured objectively
Requirements
- Bachelor degree or above in Business related discipline, preferably with Finance and/or Accounting major.
- 8-10 years' experience as a research analyst or related industry. A similar level of sector specific experience would be considered.
- Technical knowledge of the brokerage industry.
- Strong Excel/ spreadsheet skills and a good understanding of financial modelling.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- High sense of commercial awareness.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal sensitivity.
- Excellent communication, relationship and management skills to both internal and external clients.
- Fluent in both spoken and written English
