R&D Manager – Display & Electronics Division
The R&D Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end development of LCD, TFT, and display module products, including mechanical, electrical, and firmware design. This role oversees new product development (NPD), design validation, component sourcing support, tooling development, and engineering change management. The position ensures timely, cost-effective, and high-quality product launches that meet customer specifications and compliance requirements. The R&D Manager also drives continuous improvement of CCT’s design capability, documentation standards, and cross‑functional collaboration with Sales, Operations, and Supply Chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all new product development (NPD) projects from concept to mass production.
- Review and approve product specifications, drawings, BOM, and technical documentation.
- Ensure effective design planning, feasibility analysis, and risk assessment.
Technical Expertise & Problem‑Solving
- Provide strong technical direction for LCD, TFT, touch panel, PCBA, backlight, and display module design.
- Troubleshoot field failures, delivery issues, and design‑related customer complaints.
- Drive root‑cause analysis and implement robust corrective actions.
Project & Timeline Management
- Plan project schedules, design validation build, tool fabrication, and sample submission.
- Coordinate closely with production and suppliers to ensure tooling and components are ready on time.
- Track project milestones to avoid delays in customer delivery commitments.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales and Business Development to support technical proposals and feasibility studies.
- Align with Supply Chain on sourcing constraints, alternates, and component lifecycle management.
- Support Operations on manufacturability, yield improvement, and process optimization.
Documentation & Standards
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, drawing control, and revision management.
- Improve product spec sheets, DVT reports, PPAP/FAI submission files, and ECO processes.
Team Management & Capability Building
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineers across electronics, mechanical, firmware, and testing disciplines.
- Build technical skills and knowledge base to strengthen CCT's R&D competency.
- Attend customer technical reviews, solve design concerns, and present R&D capabilities.
- Support customer qualification builds and field issue investigations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge in LCD technologies (TN/STN, TFT), display modules, backlight systems, and touch panels.
- Experience in electronics and IC selection (MCUs, drivers, PMICs).
- Understanding of FPC, PCBA layout, and LCD interface protocols (TTL, LVDS, SPI, I2C, etc.).
- Familiar with tooling development: injection molds, metal frames, backlight tools.
- Hands‑on experience with DVT, reliability testing, failure analysis, and corrective action (8D, FMEA).
- Familiarity with component sourcing challenges, alternates qualification, and supplier development.
Managerial & Soft Skills
- Strong project management and timeline control—able to push for commitments internally and externally.
- Excellent problem‑solving, decision‑making, and technical judgment.
- Ability to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Effective communication with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Able to work under pressure, especially in environments with component shortages or delivery escalations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar discipline.
- 8–12+ years of experience in display module or electronics product development.
- Minimum 3–5 years in a managerial or senior engineer leadership role.
- Experience with international customers (industrial, medical, smart meter, automotive) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of automotive display standards (AEC-Q, ISO 26262).
- Experience in cost reduction projects and value engineering.
- Familiarity with ERP or PLM systems (EB, SAP, Agile, etc.).
- Experience in supplier qualification and factory audits.
